I used to swim a lot in an outdoor pool at night. Bats would swoop us all the time. They're either chasing bugs near the water, or else they skim along the surface to drink. It ran all the girls out of the pool...

Maybe they have taken up low hook turns like skydivers, are misjudging their altitude, and getting too deep in "the corner" to pull up in time to avoid splashdown.

yea I wasnt sure WTF I could get from those little buggers.

but i believe it does have some sort of mites. it was scratching itself pretty good.

it was still water logged though, so its skin may have just itched. either way I ain't gonna be handling it ungloved;)

did u call your brother yet? I was reading a website about found bats, if it is a baby (which resemble adults when their hair has come in) it shouldnt be released without being seen. Fred looks small, but I also dont know what kinda bat he is...
Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this

you know we were discussing this at the DZ last weekend.. "Do animals take risks??" do birds, squirrels, deer, cats, dogs etc wait until the last possible moment to dart out/ swoop your car...

based on casual observation i'd tend to say they do, although i wonder if they get the same sort of thrill 'higher' animals like humans do.... i cant count the number of times i've watched a bird make a sudden sharp turn toward a moving car and 'surf' the airflow off the windshield/roof...

and of course there is always those two squirrels in the insurance commercial...;)

I often drive where swallows are zooming around over the road, and other birds sit near the road. The always seem to take off or veer out of the way at the last possible second, just as I'm reaching for the brake because impact seems imminent.

But I don't think that's intentional thrill-seeking. Their genes just haven't bred them to deal properly with large 5,000 lb. objects moving at 70 mph. But they do a pretty good job of escaping at the last possible moment.

I also try and figure out which way the vultures are going to take off, into the wind, and swerve to their downwind side, so they don't fly into me.

I think I jsut acquired a temporary pet.

I tried to release "fred" tonight but his wing is kinda dried to itself. so I set up a fishtank for "him" and will try to help him out tonight when I get home. but for now I am stuck at work hoping he will fly away before I get home

a wounded one. LOL

he's a brown bat. pretty full grown but he's got friends. when I trie dto release him last night there were three bats flying around me scoping the scene. he is in a fish tank(without water) with out a cover on it so if he gets his wing straightened out he can fly out. but I have the tank in a spot that he is protected from cats that seldomly come into my yard.

I'll give you updates as he progress. IF he progresses. brown bats can live anywhere from 4-32 years. so I may end up having to care for a wounded swooper
