CanuckInUSA 0 #1 August 3, 2005 Well my wait for the INS is finally over. I have until Oct 16th to remain in the USA, at which time I'll need (at least temporarily) to go back to my native Canada. My 8+ year run here in CO is soon to come to an end. There are still a few unanswer questions (like how long do I need to be in Canada before I can return and do I need to move all of my stuff). But this isn't all bad news. As long as I play by the INS rules, there's nothing saying I can't come back in the future and at least now I know I'll be around for the swoop action in September and will be able to attend the Moab boogie. RkyMtnHigh 0 #4 August 3, 2005 Hi Steve..miss you I so know the INS System....my first husband was a Swiss national back in the 80s...he was about to be deported based on the fact that he didnt have a specialty which an American couldn't do...so I YES married him to keep him here. He's still here and ever so grateful. I was grandfathered in and got dual nationality out of it too. It was diffrerent back then, bc INS asked what color his toothbrush was, what color his underwear were and when he went/came back from work etc...while they asked the same Qs next door to see if our stories jived...needlesstosay we were married 8+ yrs so it WAS real. I understand what you are faced with...LOVE you to death Steve...Miss the Hell outta ya! jmpnkramer 0 #8 August 4, 2005 I know nothing about it but the rules are so jacked up. You can float on an innertube and become a citizen and live off the Government. Yet a person who is actually productive gets kicked out. It makes no sense! Hell I have even known people who served in our military and because they did not get thier citizenship on time got deported. INSANE I Tell Ya! Good Luck. Laters, K .The REAL KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER! CanuckInUSA 0 #10 August 4, 2005 QuoteI know nothing about it but the rules are so jacked up. Most Americans know little to nothing when it comes to immigration to their own country. People seem to think that marriage is an automatic ticket in, but it's not. If I was to get married today, I would still need to leave the country but Oct 16th. But that's okay, I knew the rules getting into all of this ahead of time. So I can't say that I'm surprised. I had a good run living here since January of '98 and Colorado will go down as one of the cool places that I have lived and who knows, maybe I'll adjust very well to living in Vancouver BC (I place I have ties to but have never lived in ... at least never lived in as an adult). QuoteYou can float on an innertube and become a citizen and live off the Government. Yet a person who is actually productive gets kicked out. It makes no sense! It has nothing to do with productivity and everything to do with catering to the cheap labor that corporate America strives for. If my name was Miguel, if I spoke Spanish and most importantly if I was willing to work for slave labor wages, then the INS would be willing to turn a blind eye to my status in this country. But since I'm not a Spannish speaking immigrate willing to work for peanuts, I'm being told to leave. But as I said earlier, I knew the rules getting into the game, so I'm not surprised with this turn of events. sistaluv 0 #11 August 4, 2005 How do they find ya out there...???I'm new to all that kind of stuff and plan to travel the world soon and wonder if I'll have problems? Blue Skies and Terminal Memories 4 Life
CanuckInUSA 0 #12 August 4, 2005 QuoteHow do they find ya out there...??? I don't understand what you're asking here? Is your question in reference to why the INS is telling me to leave? Well they know when I'm no longer working (the INS and IRS are more connected than I originally gave them credit for) and since my visa was only valid for my one employer and now that I'm no longer working, the INS is telling me to leave. It's as simple as that. A last minute marriage would not save me. The INS wants me out and in order not to risk a permanent ban, I need to do what they say, and that is to leave.
