BillyVance 34 #26 August 4, 2005 I have always packed for myself, with one exception. When I was co-organizing the Deaf World Record attempts 2 years ago, the time normally reserved for packing had to be spent reviewing the video before the post-dive debriefs, so I had packers do my rig for me. I was amazed though at how many rigs those girls at Perris can pack in a day, upwards of 50 or more! I can remember packing for myself 13 or 14 times and not being able to do anything with my fingers the next day without pain! weegegirl 2 #27 August 4, 2005 QuoteThere are some very sad packers at your DZ right now. No doubt. Actually... my packer went home for the weekend last weekend. So he gets to come back to this. Sorry John!
Jeth 0 #28 August 4, 2005 Quote I've packed for myself once... takes me forever and I get pissed that it's not going right. I know practice will make it where I won't have the problems that I do, but I wanna JUMP, not spend an hour trying to get the damn thing in the bag! That said, I *NEED* to practice... Take your rig home and practice in the evenings or over the winter (if applicable). It really helps to do it when you're not trying to get on a load! (But also, I found that when I do it at the dz, I get lots of great tips from the experienced people around me. Thats nice.I decided when I took up skydiving that I would pack for myself. I think it helps me to become much more familiar with my gear, therefore I have more confidence in it, and the cost savings is nice. I have only paid a packer when I was trying to figure out why I was getting slammer openings. I think one other time when I had to make a load for a coached jump. It does really suck in 103 degree heat, tho! "At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." PFRX!!!!! SuperKat 0 #29 August 4, 2005 I always prefer to pack my own rig. However, I've gotten my rig packed at least 10 times these past 3 weeks cuz I was in a hurry to get on the next load. Fortunately for me, regardless of who packs my rig, I always get a nice long snivel cuz of my spectre 210. Softer openings are easier on the nads. AMax 0 #30 August 4, 2005 QuoteI hate packing, it's stressfull and tiring. I haven't packed for myself in a long time and I'm very happy with that. I enjoy skydiving twice as much when I don't pack. This thing saves you life on every skydive. Why hate packing it? Love it, learn every bit of it and you attitude will change. After all it only takes a few minutes. Or wait a minute, are you on a team that makes 20 jumps per day in quads and spends all ground time for rolling and debriefs?
monkycndo 0 #31 August 4, 2005 Since I've been jumping my own rig, only had it packed 3 times other then by myself, once during reserve repack and twice just last week at LP at the end of the day. I like that I don't have to wait to get my rig during a busy day of jumping. Getting quicker packing and feel more comfortable "knowing" what to expect on opening. Rather put the money towards jumping then packing.50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
Girlfalldown 0 #32 August 4, 2005 Weegegirl you should know better than to do the math like that! That's like multiplying your jumps by how much each costs! We're all in denial about that! I think I could have bought a car for what I've spent on jumps though. I only had a packer for my first 100 jumps though. I couldn't pack if my life depended on it back then. Now it's much faster and looks a lot cleaner if I do it myself. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)
mnealtx 0 #33 August 6, 2005 QuoteTake your rig home and practice in the evenings or over the winter (if applicable). Yup, good point! The problem at the moment is that my rig is in Texas and I'm in Kosovo! I may end up bringing the rig back with me after my next vacation... there's a DZ opening up in September at the Skopje airport. I'm still trying to find out more info on that... QuoteBut also, I found that when I do it at the dz, I get lots of great tips from the experienced people around me. Thats nice. Oh, definitely! Tim (hookit) gave me some pointers... I need to have him videotape his packing procedure and send to me for practice!!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
