Slappie 9 #1 April 21, 2005 I'm in some real pain! My two front teeth were both broken when I was a pre-teen (11) during a hockey game. Got high sticked in the face while skating as fast as I could towards the opposing goal.. Was an awesome break away for an 11yo if I say so myself. Would have been my second hat trick of the day.. But I digress.. I have to now have them both removed with the 2 teeth next to them. So it's my 4 front teeth I have to have pulled. Now that's not the really bad part. I'm going to have to go thru maybe 2 bone graphs to my upper jaw boneline where those teeth used to be. Since the breakage and root canals my body has seen fit to absorb the dead tissue and cause a recuring infection in the area which until lately I've been able to control with antibiotics. Since my dental insurance is a set amount per year and my out of pocket is set. This is going to probably hurt my wallet more then my mouth. Plus it will be a multi-year project to completion. The first year I'll have a temporary bridge thats removable. If the first grapht is enough I can move on to inserts or a permanent bridge sometime next year. If I need another grapht it's going to be another year before I get my perm fix... I really want my teeth to be nice an purdy again. I've lived with these dead uglies all my life. Heck I wouldn't know how to smile showing my teeth without covering my mouth. What do you guys suggest? I know I'm going to do the first surgery this year.. That's a given. Just when should I start the process? once started I can't look back, I'll have to follow thru or I'll be a toofless redneck the rest of my life. Second poll question is... Inplants? Pretty perm teeth.. they implant anchors in my bone line and attach teeth. MUCHO EXPENSIVE!! Perm Bridge? You all know what a bridge is I'm sure. Close to my price range, but not as permanent as implants. Kinda a serious question for me.. So please take it semi-serious.. Not that I'm going to do what you freaks say anyways. I'm just curious what ya'll think about this situation. Oh and if you've gone thru similar please please post or pm me your thoughts and experinces with this dreaded operation. Don't have a clue what to advise you on the dental portion of this, but as for the financial portion - do you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) benefit at work? I had to have a crown put in a couple years ago and my dental insurance only covered half, so I financed the rest through an FSA, which at least meant I was paying for it with pre-tax $$. Too late to put in more money for this year, but it might help take the sting out a bit for next year's payments."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. We can change our insurance stuff and deductions once a year in December. Thanks I will make a note to do that next year! Awesome suggestion! Not at all, I knew I'd get some idiots.. and heck I'm one.. because I can't decide what I want to do.. But no I wanted some feedback from people who've had major dental stuff before. I know Skymedic has, hell he's doing his now! Jumper03, I'm still smoke free. Rebecca 0 #8 April 21, 2005 Yeah, if there's any way to get the implants, do it. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
Slappie 9 #9 April 21, 2005 QuoteYeah, if there's any way to get the implants, do it. That would take money from my downpayment fund. I'm actually leaning that way to be truthful. shit this whole process is going to cut into my downpayment fund unless I win the lotto I'll just be a homeless dude with awesome teeth. kbordson 8 #11 April 21, 2005 A smile is important. Not so much the teeth in the smile but the confidence of your spirit behind it. If you're able to smile and truly mean it, then just be happy and spend you money on something fun. If you don't like smiling because you're embarassed, that then affects so many parts of who you are. You might view the world as more negative and be annoyed of those who can smile and flash the ivory. You might not want to find humor in silly things cuz then you would have to smile. But people should smile... they should laugh.... life should be good and there should always be those stoopid rainbows that everyone keeps talking about. (sorry... I digressid) Anyway... if it will make you happy... do it and don't worry about the cost. You're gonna die anyway.... spend the money now. tigra 0 #14 April 21, 2005 Just curious- Since the problem with your teeth is causing chronic recurring infections, is there any way your regular medical insurance would cover this? If you can afford it or work out some kind of payment plan, I'd go for the permanent implants! Probably a better choice in the long run!
BillyVance 35 #15 April 21, 2005 QuoteYeah, if there's any way to get the implants, do it. Not knowing much about dental surgery, somehow I think something permanent would be the best thing to do. If it's really expensive, maybe we can start up a fund among the DZ.commers and help Slappie out? When I made a post on rec.skydiving in 1997 about my car, gear and TDD (telephone for the deaf) getting stolen, someone suggested that if 20 people contributed $20 each, I'd have a new TDD to replace the one I lost. It took less than a day to rack up enough commitments... I was blown away. Then there's one of our fellow crwdogs who really wanted to go to the national championships at Perris last year but couldn't afford the trip from N.C., someone started a fund and we all chipped in to buy his airfare and some of his jumps, not through DZ.com though, but through the crwdog emailing list. Well? Of course, you can always go back and sue the fucker who high-sticked you in the face!
