happythoughts 0 #1 August 15, 2005 I have been going to WFFC since 96. Ever year, except one, I found a person with a mis-routed chest strap. This year also. I am sitting in the back of the plane. I give everyone in my group the general eyeball check. Chest strap routing, cutaway pillow... I notice that one guy has a problem. I lean over and quietly whisper, "Your chest strap is misrouted." He looks down and says, "No, it's not." and tugs mine. I reply, "It is wrong. Fix it." "What?" Another jumper overhears now and points it out to him. It is just wrapped around, not threaded through the buckle. He fixes it. On the ground, he says that he appreciated it, but that it would have probably been ok. He's right, it probably would have been. What kind of bonehead comment is that ? You are willing to bet your life on "probably" ? I told him that it was not ok and that he owed me. I said that he was going to have to catch 4 people before he saw me next. At 11K, I said to everyone on the plane, loudly, "It's 11,000 feet people. Gear checks. Check your buddies. Chest straps, bridles, hackeys, cutaway pillows, pin checks..." I wonder why no one else caught it.

happythoughts 0 #3 August 15, 2005 Quote Thanks for saving lives up there. We need more guys like you. It's a personal rant. I've caught someone on a 4-way team and when they thanked me, I asked them why no one on their team caught it. That is why I grouse about it. I want more skydivers looking after their skydiving buds.
