wildblue 7 #7 August 8, 2005 Any attendence numbers out yet? (I realize it's early, just curious) I think I have an over-under bet going with someone Personally, I'd be more likely to go if there was some kind of weekend pass deal. skybytch 273 #8 August 8, 2005 QuoteAttendance is way down this yer just from looking around. Is it just the convention or are all the "destination" boogies down this year (ie is the economy at least partly to blame)? I was told there were about a hundred fewer people at Lost Prairie this year as well.

jumpchikk 0 #10 August 8, 2005 QuotePersonally, I'd be more likely to go if there was some kind of weekend pass deal. I can't see paying $70 for 3 or 4 days. I agree. I would see myself driving to the convention and making a few jumps on the weekend, if it weren't for that $70 registration fee. But, having to compensate for the high gas prices and then being hit with that registration fee, I couldn't afford it. Plus I am saving all my partying for Atlanta
bbarnhouse 0 #11 August 8, 2005 Boogies may well indeed be down, but jump numbers overall are up. I have to wonder if in part it is due to the fact that there are so many boogies to choose from.
JohnMitchell 16 #12 August 8, 2005 And three turbine DZ's within an hour or so of my house. Who needs to hit a boogie when you have that? Well, okay, the parties are great, and it's fun to see a lot of old friends and make new ones, but to have great jumping I don't need to go anywhere but right around here.
 weegegirl 2 #13 August 8, 2005 Rantoul is a very expensive party. If you've been a couple years in a row, you've pretty much seen what there is to see. Sure, it's a great time, but it is NOT the safest place to jump. At this point, for me, I would rather meet my friends at a small low-key boogie or a skillz camp. Years ago when a big plane was a Beech and an Otter was a treat then I could see driving the 5 hours to get to a boogie that had a few of them. I started after turbines were already at most DZ's so I'd rather save my registration fee money and put it towards jumps at a DZ I can drive home from that night if I want to. At least at home I know jumpers that fly their canopies like idiots will be talked to unlike at WFFC where that seems to be the norm Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
 MikeForsythe 0 #19 August 8, 2005 I think skydiving has evolved and the convention is a victim of it. From an economic stand point the convention with high vendor fees, $70.00 non-prorated registration fees and $22.00 jumps are no longer a bargain. In contrast for example, the holiday boogie is free for vendors, $30.00 registration fees and $16.00 jumps. There is also the fact that it is losing its luster to attract people. The standard turbines are more common at DZ’s across the nation. Ballons and helicopter are also becoming more common at other boogies. And the bottom line is people miss Rod and a jet. Boogies, boogies, boogies! We have arrived at the point where there is a boogie almost every weekend somewhere. And face it, people like variety. Now we have the opportunity to go different places and not only see our friends but meet new ones. This also allows us to seek out new places and adventures while at the new boogies. The convention would be better served to only have it every two to three years instead of every year. That way I think more people would be attracted to it.
