lawrocket 3 #1 August 16, 2005 My son had his first birthday party this weekend. It was nice - we had about 40 people show up. It was our first real event at oru new pad and felt like it did well. Now, on July 2 I purchased the home furnishing I had wanted for years - a kegerator. On Thursday night, my wife's brother and I finished my soda can keg of Fat Tire. My wife then suggested something that hit me like a ton of bricks - "Hon, maybe you should get a keg of Coors Light since everyone likes that." I'm a beer connoisseur. I like my beer bitter and strong. I thought this kegerator was for me - ME! Alas, family life has proven that nothing is "mine" - it's all "ours." Oh, with the exception of my wife's stuff, which is hers So on Friday I did what any real man would do - I meekly said, "Okay" and purchased a 1/4 barrel of Coors Light. I wanted it installed on Friday so that it could calm down and not be all foam on Saturday night. Conor's party went well. It started slowly enough at 4:30 - almost everyone showed at 4:30 but not all were too sociable. People weren't drinking, though. Well, I was. We were gettign food together, etc., and I fired up the grill at 6:00 and as I was cooking I wondered about the tough time of disposing of all that Coors Light. By the time I sat downa nd ate, I saw that people were drinking more and being much more social. By 9:00 people were really going strong! My employees decided that I hadn't been drinking enough and my receptionist poured me a drink and said, "Sit down and relax for once and drink with us." Boy, it's hard to object to that. By the way, my receptionist is a 55 year-old male ex cop. His wife is our office manager. So I don't think the receptionist was interested in landing the boss. At 10:30, the keg ran dry. Within ten minutes, everybody was gone except a couple of family members to help with the clean up. So I learned the following things: 1) People will invite themselves to a place where the beer runs freely; 2) A guy with a kegerator is highly desirable as a friend and associate; 3) Cleanup is far easier with a keg than with bottles and cans; 4) A cheap beer is the best beer to have for general consumption; and 5) Get a small enough amount of beer so that people will leave at a reasonable time. All in all, I think I'll be having more parties. I also think my deal will be, "You bring the food and I'll supply the beer." And I think I'll have to install a second tap so I can have some good beer in there, too. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Elisha 1 #2 August 16, 2005 Glad it went well...but you could have at least compromised and got something like a keg of Heineken. If it had to be light, at least make it something good.
skymama 37 #3 August 16, 2005 Here's what you do the next time...buy the cheap beer for the masses again. Buy a 6 pack of your favorite beer, put it in a cooler and stick it in your bedroom. When you get thirsty, use the same kind of cup that everyone else is using and secretly go pour your beer in your cup. No one will be any wiser and everyone will be happy; they get free beer and you get your favorite! When I have friends over I have no qualms about telling them "This is your beer/wine, and this is mine. If you want me to share my good stuff with you, you have to bring good stuff to share with me." Similarly when I go to a party at someone else's house, I'll usually bring my own dead stuff and beverages and I'll share with the host if they're interested. tigra 0 #5 August 16, 2005 I usually buy a few different 12 packs when I'm having people over. I myself can't stand cheap keg beer (it doesn't like me either) and most of my friends have slightly more "refined" taste in beer as well. So I buy a veriety and most people can find something they like. If there's any left over, at least its usually something I will drink.
