Are you a lost Brit too?

No, I am a lost Texan who used to be married to a Brit but now married to an Aussie. :|

I spent one summer in England, and I think that crumpets were the only decent food I had the whole time I was there. :P

So for those of us non-traveled, etc. Americans....is the English Muffin the American version of a crumpet?

BTW, I went to college in Tucson...good luck finding any remotely healthly food store...sheesh, good luck finding anything that is not some version of Mexican food. When I was lost there for 4 years, all I wanted was some decent Chinese food. DON'T, I repeat, DON'T EAT CHINESE FOOD IN TUCSON :S

No Crumpets are something quite different from a muffin, although they can end up on the same plate.

Thanks for the tip on Chinese food.
They do have a very good Indian place (I half Brit = I know what I'm talking about), and of course a superb Mexico City high-end Cuisine place called Cafe Poca Cosa... Next time you come over.

Ps. When was that, there are a few Wild Oats, a Sunflower market, AJ's and 3 or 4 Trader Joe's now..

I've had exactly two dinners in Tucson and one of them was there. Totally yummy!

I that not the Ultra shit... I was there last night... well then it looks like your xmas boogie might be one of culinary experiences (including the Crumpets)

Super yummy. I'd go back there any time. Will definitely have to make it down there during the Holiday Boogie. I'll owe my friend in Tucson a visit, anyway.

I had them down in Barbados and they were more like a biscuit and were quite good.

Thanks!

no no no no nooo... muffins you slice in two, crumpets not, the crumpets have a smoother texture on one side and on the other, a bunch a tiny holes for the butter to melt in, add a little marmite and you are in heaven.

an english muffin is different, is a split doughy thingy, a crumpet is a single hole-y thingyhttp://www.maxlabs.com/hn/Food_Guide/English_Muffins.jpg

Thank you. I appreciate the information. I believe, I understand crumpets. My chances of finding one in West Texas are about slim and none. At least, I know what they are, now!B|

That's pretty cool! I've gotten a lot of good help in understanding here and I really do thank y'all. I appreciate it. Crumpets, sound pretty damned good.

I always love having debates on how sucky the food in England is with Brits.... They make it sooooo easy! ;)
