mailin 0 #1 August 29, 2005 I'm blaming DZ.com... over the last 18 days I have lost sleep, concentration and jumps to Harry Potter. I'm managed to read all 6 books and am now looking for more. Its like a crack fix, I need more! Must have more! *looking around the room manicly* They're so incredible - best series I've read in ages. The last one finishes in such a way that its left open for lots of room for the series to grow - can't wait to see where it goes. Thanks alot DZ.com JenArianna Frances
NWFlyer 2 #2 August 29, 2005 Hee. I remember that feeling - I didn't start reading them till #4 was out and I devoured them all on a two-week vacation. I then joined the rest of the world in waiting (im)patiently for the next editions...."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
gmittar 0 #3 August 29, 2005 I was dissapointed in the ending of the last one. Not the death(knew who it would be from basic deductive reasonging), but the other part with harry. |>.<| Seriously, W.T.F. mate?
tigra 0 #4 August 29, 2005 That's about the time I started reading them too. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. JK Rowling is brilliant. Other books have captured me, but none like this!
Mike111 0 #5 August 29, 2005 The first four were quite addictive and a good read... but the latest one is more of a disappointment IMHO. dunno why. But very good series though, a lot of clever plots which hook the reader in.
jumpjunkie2004 0 #6 August 29, 2005 Imagine reading them as they came out! It was an eternity between books! I agree about the last book - it was a little disappointing. Have you seen the movies?Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...
mailin 0 #7 August 29, 2005 The last one was such a change from the other books that its bound to disappoint people who were looking for her to finish this point in the characters life. The fact that its not going to do what would be typical is really interesting me. I'm excited to see where it goes - its so open right now that I could easily see this dragging on for as many as 12 more books! I really hope another one comes out soon! 4WayXena 0 #9 August 29, 2005 Total Harry Potter geek chiming in.... JK Rowling is going to write one more Harry Potter book and that's it. Sorry folks :^( I love those books too. I bet anyone $100,000 that Harry finds one of the horcruxes in Grimmauld Place. Kreacher's stashed it with some other Black family heirlooms.
Rebecca 0 #10 August 29, 2005 I've learned to clear my schedule when a new book comes out, because frankly, if I have plans, I'll break them to read, and if I can't break them, I'll get out asap. I called in sick once for the Goblet of Fire. psst, Kirsten, I think you're right about the horcrux being in Grimmauld Place, but I think Mundungus Fletcher nicked it and fenced it... or at the very least, that will be one of the trails Harry has to follow... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? tigra 0 #11 August 29, 2005 I view the last two as essentially the beginning of the end. A lot of questions resolved, more raised and its all leading up to Harry's final confrontation with Voldemort. Maybe if I read it as a stand alone book, I *might* have felt disappointed, but as the second to last installment of the series, I think it delivered exactly what it needed to. Could it be you are already feeling the let down of a) knowing it will be at least 2 years before the next one and b) the next one WILL be the last? mailin 0 #12 August 29, 2005 QuoteJK Rowling is going to write one more Harry Potter book and that's it. Sorry folks That's not what she said in an interview I saw on TV last spring... she didn't give specifics but said that she has many ideas for continuing with the HP story line for as long as she can sustain it... I hope its true! JenArianna Frances
riddler 0 #13 August 29, 2005 Cool! Next tunnel camp, we'll bring DVDs and watch the movies after camp while eating every-flavor beans Quotea) knowing it will be at least 2 years before the next one The last book has already been written, so it's up to the marketing people to figure out how long before releasing it. Speculation is that it might only be one year.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
tigra 0 #14 August 29, 2005 In more recent interviews, she says she loosk forward to completing the series and her life "post Harry Potter". When Ann Rice tried to stop writing about Lestat, she claims that "he" would not let her. Maybe Harry and company will haunt JK until she gives in and starts writing about them again. j0nes 0 #15 August 29, 2005 i also enjoy Harry Potter. It's nice light reading before bed. and gmittar QuoteNot the death(knew who it would be from basic deductive reasonging ... I bet you're one of those people who is 'never suprised' in movies. "Oh yeah, I knew Bruce Willis was dead the whole time in Sixth Sense" You're so full of crap. looking back now, there is some foreshadowing early in the book regarding Dumbledore's death but to say you knew about it is B.S. Anyway I thought this one was a good one, maybe my favorite. As to the Horcruxes I'm sure you are right. It was however mentioned in another thread or an article I read that she said she would be eager to write more books under a pen name after the HP series. She did write herself a loop hole into her earlier statement that she would write only one book per year at Hogwarts, 7, by having Harry leave school. Because he can always take a couple of books off to fight Voldemort and then go back and finish school, but I seriously doubt she will take that path.
