kelel01 1 #32 August 30, 2005 Most people practice by jumping (hence opening the packjob), and then packing again. I'm not much for the "pack, pull it out in a very un-fun way, pack again" cycle. Did Lach actually PACK, not just TRY?
kelel01 1 #33 August 30, 2005 I've sent a few. I'm losing my steam already. Most fucking companies make you recreate the resume in their format every time, so it takes a while to apply to them. And then no one calls.

Quote And then no one calls. Call them to check the "status" of your resume. Most of the time they will say, "What's your name." This is an opportunity for you to bring your name to the top of the pile and then ask them for a interview.
kelel01 1 #37 August 30, 2005 There are no phone numbers. These just go out into the void. Maybe I should just call The Home Depot by my house and ask if they were sent my resume. These employers are smart. They don't want people calling them.

Buried 0 #40 August 30, 2005 QuoteWho's gonna pay for a packjob that takes an hour and opens in severe line twists? I'm impressed if you could consistently do that on a spectre with out even trying. as for the resumes.. online applications suck, you know 90% of the time they are just searched for key words which is crap. You have to know some people.. or if you really want, make business calls and just drop off the resumes in person and see if you could get a minute of someones time. You will probably get a bunch of 'too busy' answers, but there will always be a few that say ok. Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

Actually, for just randomly sending out resumes on monster.com, that's pretty decent odds. You gotta network, girl. Work your connections. Friends, neighbors, colleagues, former colleagues, old classmates, jump buddies, whatever ... talk to 'em all cuz ya never know who's gonna know someone who's got a job. http://www.asktheheadhunter.com/ This is one of my favorite job search advice sites. kelel01 1 #42 August 30, 2005 Networking ain't working. I've done that route, and I've exhausted all of those resources, at least in Atlanta. I mean, one of my 2 interviews was gotten by a friend, and my other friends have tried or are actively trying. And my parents would be no use to me. They've never done the business thing - not that I want to anymore either. But I will check out that website. Thanks! Okay, just making sure that you're not relying *solely* on monster.com. Keep an eye on company web sites for companies you're interested in ... sometimes they don't list their jobs on the job posting sites. Craigslist has a lot of listings, too. And I feel your pain! Going through the same shit right now myself. My most promising interview is with a vendor I worked with in my last job. But I also have my foot in the door at a large local company because I interviewed for a job that was listed on Monster. I wasn't the right fit for that position, but the recruiter likes me and wants to get me in there, so we're both keeping our eyes out for other jobs. You never know where the lead is gonna come from. It's frustrating and slow and you sometimes wonder why they can't see the fabulousness that is you!
