swedishcelt 0 #1 August 28, 2005 If you have ever jumped out of a cooler than normal plane I would love a picture of it for my files. Just be sure to name it so I can look up details about it. Please feel free to add any cool memories about the jumps you did from it or in association with it too! I use them as flashcards almost and quiz myself so I can identify them. I don't like to just dl them from the internet w/o permission because that's just wrong. (Humor me. I have a broken leg and am running out of things to do.) NickDG 23 #6 August 28, 2005 Yes, it was while I was in New Zealand . . . We had 125 jumpers on board for a mass demo jump into a big airshow. One of the crewmen said they could easily lift over 300 skydivers! NickD BASE

shall555 0 #12 August 29, 2005 QuoteCool, thanks, you jumped from this? Heh.. Yes, several times. It was owned by Martin Caidin, a prolific aviation and science fiction author. He lived in Gainesville, FL and would sometimes just get inspired and fly out to the dz and let us jump out of the plane. Details here It's a Junkers Ju-52, a 1933 German transport that Caidin rescued from the Brazilian jungle and had restored. The name "Iron Annie" is a nickname given the Ju-52s by German troops during the war. The planes were also sometimes referred to as "Tante Ju" where "Tante" means "aunt". Caidin also referred to her affectionately as an "aluminum overcast" ! I even taught the first jump course to one of Caidin's pilot friends and then put him out on his first jump ( static line ) from Iron Annie the next day. The plane had a turret in the back , on the top. Really, just sort of an open-air seat that could be uncovered. It was a blast to ride in. What a view ! We also did some jumps where we climbed out on the wings. More than you wanted to know, right ? Cheers, shall

rehmwa 2 #21 August 29, 2005 Hi cousin - you change your avatar a lot. I've just jumped normal stuff - cessnas, twin bo, otters, casa, vans, beechcraft, etc. The Helio stallion was cool, but no pics. One chopper. I'll see if I can link to this story - picture. But it's essentially a far east version of a CASA 212 that we crashed in. 1st load we jumped, second load we landed very very hard. Indonesia, a few years ago. I think 2001. ...
