freeflir29 0 #1 September 1, 2005 So with gas hitting the prices that it is..........what's that going to do to DZ's which have already seen an across the board +/- 30% drop in business since 9/11? Hope you DZO's have a LARGE rainy day fund put away. We might as well all buy BASE rigs if this crap keeps up!
mdrejhon 8 #2 September 1, 2005 Jump tickets are already higher than that in Japan.
BillyVance 35 #3 September 1, 2005 QuoteJump tickets are already higher than that in Japan. No shit... That's why deaf Japanese skydiver Hiro Masuda comes to California 3 or 4 times to jump his ass off. Not only that, he's got around 30 hours of tunnel time too... You'll meet him at DWR! bob.dino 1 #5 September 1, 2005 In my experience Japan isn't much more expensive than (say) London or NYC. That said, I didn't try jumping there. And yeah, we get a bunch of Japanese skydivers over a couple of times a year...

bob.dino 1 #7 September 1, 2005 If I'm living there and getting paid a good rate, then I don't care. Look at me: I'm living in Australia, making bugger-all by world standards for my job, but it's plenty for a decent standard of living and a bundle of jumps, so I'm happy! Frenchy68 0 #8 September 1, 2005 QuoteJump tickets are already higher than that in Japan. Yeah, but air density is so much higher in Japan, the average FF from 12,500ft lasts over 3 minutes. Have you ever seen the Japanese National RW BASE team turn points from that 200ft antenna? It's so cool. BartsDaddy 7 #11 September 1, 2005 I think he is talking about the US and not Japan. So what does the cost of a jump in Japan have to do with the price of tea in the US Handguns are only used to fight your way to a good rifle
btucker 0 #12 September 1, 2005 Down in Oz, I don’t think I could afford the petrol to go base jumping! Petrol at my local servo has hit $1.40 a litre. Since I started driving in 1989, Petrol has doubled. Jump ticket prices have already risen a couple of dollars slot, at the start of the year. At my local DZ a single ticket is now a staggering #37! I have a 2001 ticket @ $25 / slot. The good news is that some DZs offer awesome deals for bulk buys or team rates. So shop around. Even in a small market like Australia there is strong competition for teams or those doing lotsa jumps. Blue Dreams Benno

I thought about buying a 50 acres and building a 2000ft antenna with an elevator and jump platforms at various heights and call it Baseland. How's things going in Iraq? Hi FF I'm guessing the sport will accelerate in the direction it was already heading The Tandems, TM's and packers will continue to work in the industry. The up front costs to start jumping were already steep so that market will go away except for the CC folks and high income folks. The fun jumper could be facing other inflationary pressures besides gas & jumping so the ones who can't afford to pay and still want to play will become "contractor employee's" at the DZ so they can continue to jump.
