josheezammit 0 #1 September 1, 2005 I know this is ridiculous, i know you all are gonna call me a loony bastard for saying this, but we should not jump this weekend, not because of the weather, or any other crap, but if we pay for jumps, i think we should just skip one weekend of jumping. On average i spend any where from 100 to 250 dollars on a weekend of jumping, this weekend, i can't do that, I think that the american red cross could use that more then i can, so here is what I am gonna do......I am going to make 1 hop and pop this weekend, and the rest of my money that I would have spent on jumping, i am gonna buy little girls bottles of water with, I am going to buy an elderly lady a sandwich, I am going to help people who have lost everything, just get something to eat, i love adrenaline, but I hope that my money can have more of an impact on the world then just me jumping for a weekend, I challenge you all to look inside your hearts and donate to the american red cross or any other charity that you prefer. The choice is yours cats......the DZ will still be there next week Ahh, what a wonderful world.

flyangel2 2 #8 September 2, 2005 What about the jumpers that have headed up to Byron for the boogie there? Or Couch Freaks? And like Frenchy said, you got Nationals happening right now. You have great intentions, and I hope donations are made to the Red Cross this weekend.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

josheezammit 0 #12 September 2, 2005 i know that plans have been made to go to different events, and i even have friends competing in nationals this weekend, i am not asking you or them to make life altering plans or disregard what you have been training for, over the past year, i am however asking that if you can find the goodness in your heart to look for the well-being of others, over your own entertainment, that you simply just take a weekend off, and support people whose lives have been shattered, that is all. Ahh, what a wonderful world.
Smilie 0 #13 September 2, 2005 West Planes Skydiving, in Davenport, Washington has set up an account with Global Credit Union for jumpers, and others to donate for Hurrican relief. Since Global is a shared branch member, you should be able to donate from just about any city. (I know that when I was in Califonia, I could access my account from another bank) Sending our jump planes down with supplies would be great, if we could saftey while handing out supplies. My little brother even asked if that would be something we could do. He works for a local Lowes, here in Spokane Wa, and people are buying all the OSB they can to send down, along with other things. I am a red cross volunteer, and couldn't go with our local chapter to offer med help because of the safety issue, it sucks, but we do get limited to how much practical help we can be. ... freeflail 0 #14 September 2, 2005 How about we just jump and donate and fix the credit card thing later? I plan to send most of what I'll donate through the dropzone - I'm sure there will be a fundraiser this weekend, and it doesn't hurt PR to show that the money is coming from the skydiving community

Frenchy68 0 #25 September 2, 2005 QuoteIf you were in their position, wouldn't you be grateful for the generosity of you fellow man? I would. However, some people can donate and still skydive. Others have to make the sacrifice. Others will cut down and something else than skydiving and still donate. I think that's what Zenister meant. And I agree with him.
