OK,SEEMS LIKE THE INNER WORKINGS OF A RAVAGED MIND HAVE COME UP WITH A SOLUTION?(sorry about the caps I'm damn angry)!Humm, having SPENT 3 interested years in and around New Orleans(riding my bike on most of the levees,I can see the folly of man versus nature).Example, who would have thought the a gas caring missile would bring down the World Trade Center?Who would of thought that the Shear force of that much water would topple levees?Engineering Designers of course. Now,It seems my thought of leveling New Orleans and starting over would now make perfect sense? Why not do it you say?The cost and shear magnitude of this, just corrupts the mind. Why not do the job right the first time you have a chance to set things right?I suppose SOP will be what happens?Spend the most money,do the littlest of work?Thoughts

Instead of leveling the city and starting over why not just level the city and relocate the people who lived there to new cities.

New Orleans is below sea level and it will take billions to not just rebuild the city but to upgrade all the water pumps, etc. Hurricanes are bound to happen again.

I'm not saying I agree with this but it is something that can be debated.

I'd say let the corps of engineers and the national guard bring in those huge bulldozers and start razing all those neighborhoods that have been underwater. By now, most of those homes are going to be uninhabitable even if they dry out. You won't get the smell out and it won't be healthy to stay. Can anybody say mold spongiform or something similar? Then after the homes are razed, bring in truck after truck of fresh dirt and cover the land up, maybe raise the ground level a few feet. Then start over.

Of course, it might make better sense since that New Orleans is a bowl-shaped city with no escape for the water, to turn the city into the nation's garbage dump... Hell, one report said that due to the chemical contamination in the flood waters, the city would be uninhabitable for a decade. Of course, that sounds extreme, but then again, what is, in this case?

Raze the houses that are unrecoverable, jack up the houses that are recoverable and fill beneath them with silt. You could even let the river do that (although it would probably be easier with dredges.) Voila - a New New Orleans that's _above_ sea level and much easier to defend against hurricanes.

Yeah, definitely easier said than done. Or move the city to Baton Rouge. I just read in the newspaper that Baton Rouge is now Louisiana's largest city. They think it will double in size, permanently. Guess we'll see in the coming months and years...

>>Voila <<

That would take a heck of a magician.

shoot man. its would only take a decade or so! A billions of dollars worth of machinery, years of political debate, public outcry, environmental protests, sit-ins, sit-outs, weather holds, and lots, I mean LOTS of beer.

you wanna borrow my magic wand?! :D:D:D

I dont know much but I stayed at a holiday in express last night! :S:D
