Fats Domino is missing from New Orleans

I dont see how this warrents his own article.... alot are missing, alot are dead I dont give a damn about how many records someone sold

Famous people are a cross-section of "real people". Understanding that a famous persons name is well-known around the world, writing about their suffering (admitedly no more that the rest) often makes it more real to people, say on the other side of the rock for example, who might just not get it.

I agree with you... It's not an excuse, just an explanation.

Also worth noting is that he'd get an article if he died of a heart-attack... or a car crash... or a mugging gone bad....

Either way, he's famous, if something happens, it'll be written about because there is a number of people who follow his life. Writing about him disapearing in the floods is in no way downplaying the rest of the victims... it's just writing about him disapearing in the floods.

In any case, I certainly hope he's alright.... even though he is a famous member of the Rock N' Roll hall of fame and sold many records touching the hearts of thousands and thousands.

viable excuse, but its a shame this is what our fucking people want to read about

I think anything that can put a face on this is beneficial. So a there are a lot of people dead and missing. People understand that but it doesn't quit hit home until you hear things like "Fats Domino" is missing.

It's another human face and another way to humanize this tragedy.

so pictures of people on their roofs waiting for death doesnt hit close to home...

Pictures of children sitting on their parents shoulders while wading through flooded waters doesnt humanize this?

I call bullshit

I think you're missing the point.

Joe Bob Smith is crying in the street....

typical american "Wow, sucks to be Joe Bob Smith. But since I don't know him all I can do is feel sorry for him. Much the way I did for those people with the tsunami"

Fats Domino goes missing....

typical american "Wow, I grew up listening to him. Man, I love his music! He's gone missing? Danm, must be a horrible thing going on down there if a guy with all that money can't get out of there"

See now? :S Americans, on a whole, are stupid.

Wow , Its nice when people generalize such a profound and indepth statement like

Americans, on a whole, are stupid.

This should be in SC , I wont argue this with people, this is not making the event in NOLA more tragic

pictures of people

This is your first reference to "people" on this thread. You first post said,

We've got stories on the new orleans Saints looking for a place to play. It's indicative of the general problems with business, and of an organization that everybody knows about.

Pictures are shocking to many. But, it has been commented and inferred about comments and pictures of looters and their respective races. "Their just looters - kill them."

But everyone knows Fats Domino. People know who Steve McNair and Brett Favre are. Why do celebrity spokespeople take up roles? Because when you've got Bob Dole talking about impotence and Larry King talking about heart problems you've got something that people can more easily identify with.

We've also seen in the past wars that the enemy people can be dehumanized as gooks, Japs, krauts, etc. "Christians" and "Jews" and "Arabs" and "Muslims." It DOES dehumanize.

Not even Fats Domino is immune to this. And when you've got Brett Favre out there saying he's luckier than all those other folks, it increases awareness.

I stand by it.

Not everything has to float everyone's personal boat. So far your lack of interest has generated more posts than the original subject.

It doesn't make it more tragic, but it does illustrate that a broad range of people were capable of making the decision to stay -- maybe some of us who don't think we could make that mistake will realize it, and decide better.

Kind of like low panic turns. No one thinks they're going to be the ones to do it. So if someone says to themselves "Damn -- Fats Domino stayed, and now they can't find him -- maybe I shouldn't stay."

The pictures and the news articles of what I mentioned before ARE one and the same. I am sick of people putting more value on one persons life because they can sing, or dance or act. Its people in our country, and people like you and Jen who seem to think this is a good idea, even Jen herself implied that he was more important because of his "status"

I didnt say I dont understand the reasons behind I am just saying that people like this make me sick.

What I love most of all, and it never fails, are the people on here who attempt to insult because they do not agree with ones opinions.

Hell lets hear how much I care about this....and fat domino

If I had to , I would let the 70 year old die and save the young family on a roof.

I would raid his fridge to feed the kids next door

And I would take video to increase everyones awareness on how much I dont give a fuck... Take this to SC... This is the bonfire where posts are pure , boobies are plentiful...

Ok, how about this? People want to know when their favorite celebrities die, go missing, get sick, get injured, etc. Why are we not entitled to know that? Just because a bunch of other people died? Is this not still news, just as it would be were he kidnapped, shot, came down with lung cancer, etc.?

good point HOWEVER , it is now one of the TOP stories, which is pitiful... What says it best is that thread with the squirrel.

People right now should care alittle fucking less about ratings and more about saving this city/state etc ... instead people are petty and want to know about the 70 year old writer while not paying attention to the stories of mass destruction and death to "common" citizens.

Right now our resources need to be put to good use, and granted this is my personal opinion on what is good use and what isnt.

Marie who's trying to insult you?

If your mother died in the flood, would you have more sorrow then if she didn't? Does it mean you consider her life more valuable then anothers?

Her life means more to you than the life of a stranger, but from what I gather of you, that does not extend to say you beleive her life to be more important. You may be all read-up and savy on the flood situation today... if you had a family member there, do you not think you might be a little more connected for updates?

As someone already posted. Anything that puts a face on the disaster is good. There are a lot of things happening which are worthy of the news. Fats Domino is someone that a lot of people would like to hear about. You may not give a rats ass about him but many may shed a tear at his passing (if he has passed) as though he was family.

Are you suggesting we should write no more then "hundreds are dying" and repeat this on papper after papper, providing no more detail than this?
