Just a word of caution - landing on the runway without flaring, butt first, is a very bad thing. B|:( And the fact that it hurts more now than earlier isn't a good sign...

I'm such a danm perfectionist that this is the most discouraging thing I have yet to encounter. I have to stand up the next 6 or else....[:/]

So on the plus side, I have lots to work on tomorrow ;)

Runway landings are never fun! If your butt still hurts real bad tomorrow, just chill and watch landings, that can be pretty helpful, too! Watch how others flare.

Don't get discouraged, and although it is difficult, you are going to have to at least TRY to get over the perfectionist thing for a while. Landings take time to get right, don't be dissappointed if you slide one in now and again. Just keep working on them, no one expects you to be great at first, guys will rag on you just so they can talk to you (shameless:P).

Take care and congrads on your AFF! Sounds like you have done a killer job!

Hey Angela!

I'm trying real hard to not get discouraged... but its hard when you don't see progress [:/]

I'm going to try a bunch of different things tomorrow to see if I can finally 'get it'.

Cross Keys has a bunch of folks out here doing their AFf too - and all the students have stood up their landings (3 of them girls, 2 boys) and I have yet to get one... talk about frustrating!

If it helps any, I stood up my first four landings and have pretty much been sliding it in ever since. I KNOW the frustration you are going through. You WILL get it. Video helped me a lot...to actually see where I was flaring and what I was doing wrong. I know you are probably already dumping loads of money into your AFF but if there is anyway you can beg someone to video your landings, it is very helpful to actually see what you are doing.

Good luck with your jumps :)

There's a thread in the Safety & Training initiated by Brian German you may want to read. Especially the part(s) about the difference between "Standing up a landing" and "Landing safely".:)You still get to jump another day...

I know how you feel. Some people get headdown in their first 100 jumps.... 300+ and I still can't manage it. :(

Try to have fun, ok? You sound a lot like me (perfectionist) and you have to stop yourself now and then and remember why your are there... to have fun! Sure, bigways, freefly, etc are all fun... but NOT when it is frusterating you. So, remember to make some ME jumps, and just enjoy the feeling and the view! :D

Everyone will get things in their own time. Look how good you did through AFF, hell, you skipped many levels and graduated in a couple of days. Some people repeat level after level for freefall problems. The canopy stuff will come, too, but for now, don't forget all of the accomplishments you have made in the past week or so!

Rock on! :D

Thanks :)
Its hard to see the forest for the trees when you're not looking ;)

I have nothing else to do here than jump, so I guess tomorrow is as good a day as ever to do my packing course... but its going to rain on Friday so I had better be good/fast on Thursday...

Thanks again for the kind words everyone :)

Wow! Thanks for say all the things I've been telling Jen. Maybe now she will listen.

:(I wish I was there to give her a big hug.

Did you leave already, Mar? I thought you were down here, too. I will probably be out at Sebastian on Saturday.

These are things I need to tell myself now and again, too. It is great to have goals in the sport, swooping and freeflying are a couple of mine. But, I need to be reminded now and then about why I started skydiving. I certainly didn't know who the PD Factory Team was, or the Sugar Gliders. I got into it because I thought it would be fun. Sometimes I forget that and I get all disappointed in my performance. So, if you could just remind me to have fun now and then that'd be great! :)
Hope to see everyone this weekend.

I'm not there anymore, I had to get back to work in order to pay for my skydiving trips.

Bummer I won't met you if you head to Sebastian. Give Jen a big hug and don't let her be too hard on herself.

Okay, rather then hijack that other thread, I'll bump this one up and ask how your day went.

So, how did your day go?

hehehe You're funny :D

Needless to say I showed up and told them I was scared sh!tless and didn't want to go up without changes... so it was back on radio and lots of talking about landing patterns etc.

1 5.5 hop n' pop
1 full alti solo

Didn't stand up any landings (yet),but got a great flare on the last one when I realized that I couldn't actually pull them down all the way and doubled up on the toggles. I should have stood it up... but felt confident to do it again tomorrow. I'll have to borrow gloves though (should have followed your advice Mary) as my hand is pretty eaten up from the runway.

The winds picked up pretty good in the afternoon and lots of people overshot the landing area and I was scared to land out again, or worse yet, crash. My decision was secured when an AFF 1 student landed real far out and got hurt [:/] I'll be finishing up tomorrow though :)
Ya!! Today was fun ;)
