He is a pure breed traditional Persian who was living with 3 dogs, 4 cats, gerbils, and ferrets. He is scared of nothing but over-baring dogs and can be very playful (loves pull up cords and wagging dog tails) it did take about two weeks for him to completely settle in, but once he was look out cause he would be running to the door to great you with the dog. Just remember that cats need to be socialized just like dogs do. Oh and it's not odd for a male to think of you as his, my cat loves me and pretty much anyone who comes over but HATES Derek, the two of them plot against eachother. Let me also recommend right now the auto cleaning litter boxes, yes they are expensive but the keep the house smelling nice and less chance of the cat not going in it cause you forgot to clean it.Fly it like you stole it! There are days when I think my self cleaning litter box is more trouble than its worth BUT I have 3 cats and one of them has kidney disease, so that littler box gets a work out! (I have a second regular litter box also and we do our best to keep them both clean so the house doesn't stink and the cats aren't tempted to find other places to go!) When they run all the time, there is usually more litter (overfilled) or clumps than the machine can handle. It gets to a certain point, stops then seems to know it didn't do its job so it tries again. The Littermaid will do that 4 or 5 times in a row then it will stop until another cat uses it, then it will try again. At that point, you need to scoop it out by hand. You also need to use only premium clumping litter- not the cheap grocery store stuff. that stuff won't work at all. There are a couple of different kinds now, LitterMaid was the first and its probably still the best one out there. (I've got a different kind now, and its definitely no better!) Also Mem only goes on one side of the box so about once a week I have to use the litter scooper to push the clumps to the other side of the bin so it doesn't fill up so fast. For awhile to save money on bins every week I would dump the clumps from the bin in the trash and only once a month replace the bin. A box of bins lasted over a year. Now I just toss the bin when ever it is full anywhere from 2-3 weeks.Fly it like you stole it!
