swedishcelt 0 #11 September 8, 2005 Real and very cool. I don't think photoshopped, maybe color accented a bit or enhanced by an auto function but in PPL groundschool I received a chart indicating (was it from NOAA?) all the different types of clouds and there are some amazingly cool types of formations in my opinion. And scary types...

I've seen them once, and it was just before 2 tornados hit... I remember the weather guy on TV saying that the air they are in is extremely turbulent, even when compared to normal storm clouds... riddler 0 #22 September 8, 2005 Quote Real. And if you ever see Mammatas that's green... RUN. That's tornado weather. From the above-linked web site: QuoteSometimes very ominous in appearance, mammatus clouds are harmless and do not mean that a tornado is about to form; a commonly held misconception. In fact, mammatus are usually seen after the worst of a thunderstorm has passed. Don't know if that's true or not. It does look like at least two of the three conditions needed for a tornado - I've been in a few Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

It does look like at least two of the three conditions needed for a tornado - I've been in a few They are caused by turbulent air, here on the front range the mountains help cause the turbulence so tornadoes don't normally form here, but go east far enough from the mountains and it's the thunderhead that creates the turbulence. That is when seeing them is a bad omen, in ND we would just go strait in the basement when you would see those and they were green. I can't think of once where the tornado sirens didn't blow soon after.Fly it like you stole it!
