Ripple 0 #1 September 9, 2005 I'm sorry, I don't have time (or the energy) to do a search to see if this has been posted already, I'm up to my eyes in disaster management and I haven't slept properly for a while now I've received an alert to advise that there are a number of malicious websites and fraudulent e-mails attempting to exploit the events surrounding the Hurricane Katrina disaster. For example, some of these e-mails link to sites posing as charities asking recipients to donate money. Other e-mails are phishing attempts, which ask recipients to submit information such as bank usernames and passwords in order to donate money. If you make an attempt to follow the links within the fraudulent e-mails, they will connect to Websites that will try to install Malicious programs onto the user system. (Updated antivirus signatures may allow detection of this threat, but regular updates of virus definitions are required to ensure the maximum level of protection available from such threats). You are strongly advised to delete these e-mails as they arrive and not to "click" on any links they contain. further info here: http://www.itsafe.gov.uk/library/snippets/2005-snpt-006.htmlNext Mood Swing: 6 minutes
wmw999 2,630 #2 September 9, 2005 Yup, there are emails coming in purporting to be from the Red Cross etc. as well. A twist on phishing. It's kind of like PayPal -- if they send it to you, it's probably bogus. They wait for you to come to them.
