javelin1 0 #2 July 31, 2008 there was an rw pc but i think (not sure) that it was made of 1.5 oz ripstop .around 1973 or so.
ryoder 1,590 #3 July 31, 2008 1974: Strong Starlite introduced. (inverted apex similar to a ParaCommander). 1976: added a slider to slow the openings. Edited to add: It was made of F-111"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. riggerrob 643 #4 July 31, 2008 Some of the 1.5 oz fabrics used on heavy weight Para-Commanders were almost zero porosity.
PeteS 0 #5 July 31, 2008 I jumped my RW PC a few years ago and BOOM! they open pretty hard but it landed well.. for a PC.
phildthedildo 0 #6 July 31, 2008 F111 did not exist in 1974
phildthedildo 0 #7 July 31, 2008 1.5 oz fabric (known in the industry as 30/70)was 0-3 cfm
ryoder 1,590 #8 July 31, 2008 QuoteF111 did not exist in 1974 I rechecked the Poynter Manual; It said "1.1 oz calendered fabric". I misread that as F-111, but noted that it generally says F-111 on the canopies that used it. Apparently, F-111 came out around 1980."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. wmw999 2,584 #9 August 1, 2008 Yep; F-111 was lighter weight than the fabric used for Starlites. I had a Starlite (loved it), and it was definitely heavier material. Just lighter than 2.2 oz. taffeta (PC fabric). Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
pchapman 279 #10 August 1, 2008 Paracommanders and similar canopies did indeed vary in their use of material - some heavy, some light, some a combination in different places. Eg, Gary Lewis' Paracommander Handbook says 2.2 oz taffeta for the basic Mk1 PC; 1.5 oz ripstop in 1977 onwards; 1.5 for the RW PC; while the Russian PC's included 1.1 ripstop too. How it all affected opening, I dunno.
JohnMitchell 16 #11 August 1, 2008 What weight are ZP, F-111, and whatever my old lopo reserve was made from?
