wmw999 2,556 #2 September 12, 2005 I used to work for the food stamp office. Your best bet is to make an appointment and keep it (yes, it means waiting an incredibly long time). You can look up some stuff, and talk to a church agency who can refer you (they're often familiar with what it takes). But a lot of the programs have some state component, and so you'd be interested mainly in the inputs from someone else in NY. Simply because what's true in Texas doesn't apply. In some states they are issuing "benefit cards" so there is no paper money. This prevents the recipient an avenue for trading the food stamp money for other items.
