Synapse 0 #1 July 27, 2008 I'm familiar with the magnetic riser covers from UPT and have used them for a few jumps on a demo rig, but I'm curious about the longevity of the design as it relates to wear and tear. On the demo rig I was using, you could certainly tell where the magnets were from looking at the outside of the covers because there seemed to be exaggerated wear directly over them. That left two circles on the covers that, at least to me, appeared to show more wear than the rest of the area. This was probably made more apparent by the fabric being black, but that is the same color I'm looking to have on my riser covers, so I'm trying to decide if the magnets are the way to go or if the good ol' tuck tabs would be better. So, I guess the short version of this is: Does anyone have a Vector with magnetic riser covers that are showing excessive wear over the magnets or am I just crazy? -synThey who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
PhreeZone 20 #2 July 27, 2008 All of the staff rigs and Sigma tandems at the DZ this year are Vector 3's with Magnets. There are no wear issues seen on any of the rigs yet other then the magnet area is a bit dirtier. The Sigma's are getting 10-15 jumps a day and probally 40-50 a week and still look great even after being 2 years old.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Synapse 0 #3 July 27, 2008 Sweet, thanks for the info Phreezone. I guess by some form of magic I associated it being dirty with it being worn. -shrug- -synThey who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
superstu 0 #4 July 27, 2008 As a competitive swooper i've pretty much done everything to my rig and i'm pretty rough on gear, but everything is holding up great. about 400 jumps on one of them that's been landed in water, sand, dirt, grass, ect. totally love UPT.Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
