wildblue 7 #1 April 9, 2004 Just curious. Or are you like me, and do all of the above trying to save $40? I just spent the last few hours looking at airfares. Even tried Priceline. This crap is expensive! And it cracks me up - the same flight can be anywhere from $350 - $2,000 and that's not counting first class. Someone just want to give me a couple buddy passes? it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

freeflir29 0 #5 April 9, 2004 It seems pretty rare that anyone has cheaper fares than the airline's web site. That's just my experience though. YMMV.
wildblue 7 #6 April 9, 2004 Quotestudentuniverse.com is good if you have an .edu email address. Are they usually better than the others at prices? I can't really compare, because I got a "At this time, we have no student deals available for the itinerary you requested." QuoteExpedia.com never found anything cheaper. That's generally been my experience. Orbitz is usually only 2 or 3 dollars more though. Today was shocking - the price direct from an airline was like $100 less than what the other places listed.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
dove 0 #7 April 9, 2004 I have found the best fares on Orbitz. Once I find a good fare there I usually go to the cheapest airline's website to save the extra $6 orbitz often charges. Yes. I am that broke and that cheap. Fall in dove.

flygirl03 0 #10 April 9, 2004 i recently used expedia for a round trip to san antonio. for the time/date i wanted to go and for a non stop flight, they had the best deal having never purchased tickets online before, i ws a bit wary of the process, but the curb side guys had me in the system, checked my bags and gave me my boarding pass... couldn't have gone more smoothly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ earthbound misfit

ChasingBlueSky 0 #15 April 9, 2004 I always do better going right to the website of the airline, joining their rewards club and booking thru them. Expedia, et all include a service fee to book the tickets for UAL, AA, etc. I have a friend that is a manager in marketing for one of the major airlines - she mentioned that you would do better 9/10 times on the airline homepage. In fact, they often offer better deals, cheaper prices and higher rewards that way. Always check the discount airliners: www.flyted.com, www.flysong.com, www.spiritair.com,www.airtran.com, www.frontierairlines.com, www.flyseal.com, www.usa3000.com, wwwjetblue.com, www.southwest.com, www.ata.com (thats all that I could remember off the top of my head) Also, look at the airport you will be leaving from and arriving at - check to see all the airlines that work at both ends....you can usually find this on the airports website...then check the airlines webpages. btw, don't forget www.travelzoo.com for vacation packages, www.hotwire.com, www.cheaptickets.com, yahoo travel....if I remember any others (I subscribe to about 30 of them) I will post them later._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Gawain 0 #16 April 9, 2004 I use a travel agent that always finds me fares cheaper (by notable margins) than anything I find online. I've used Priceline a couple times. Where are you flying off to?So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Aviatrr 0 #17 April 9, 2004 I call the travel desk at my company....they get "special rates" with all the airlines....plus, they punch in a departure, destination, and date.....and they get ALL flights(and prices) in the Sabre reservation system for the given places and date. I guess you could say I use a company paid travel agent... Mike
weegegirl 2 #18 April 9, 2004 Great Post... very useful info! I shop around... somewhere different each time... Priceline, Hotwire, Orbitz, CheapTickets... CheapTickets a few years ago sold me round trip from New York to Peru for $515-. I couldn't believe it.
CanuckInUSA 0 #19 April 9, 2004 QuoteI am that broke and that cheap. Sounds like someone needs to find herself a sugar-daddy. As far as this thread is concerned... I've used Travelocity, Orbitz and Priceline and for the most part didn't notice much of a difference in prices (yes doing concurrent searches at the same time). But for the life of me, I will never understand how these ticket agents come up with their prices. I've seen the same flight advertized with radically different prices. Or I've seen prices radically higher for making multiple connections. It just doesn't make sense at times. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Aviatrr 0 #22 April 9, 2004 QuoteI think they use the same system to make my reservations for work. Yep....amazing how they always seem to find seats via Sabre when the airline websites show nothing available.. I've often been amazed at how people that bought their tickets months in advance get bumped off an overbooked flight, but when my company books a flight 8 hours before departure time, I always seem to get a seat....hmmm....wonder why that is? damion75 0 #23 April 10, 2004 Ebookers.com - not bad prices and you can actually buy the flights at the prices they put on the screen, unlike most other sites which advertise a really good price but when you phone to book tell you it has sold out... and offer the same or worse than everyone else...*************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
