WatchYourStep 0 #1 September 19, 2005 Well I'm about done with my current job. Sitting in a cube 8 hours a day doesn't work for me. I've always wanted to start my own business but was never really sure, but now I'm ready. I've got funds lined up, but I'm struggling with a few ideas. The area I live in is a college town with roughly 81,000 residents, with an additional 15,000-20,000 college students. The main breakdown in population for the 81,000: 16-24 27,000 25-44 23,000 + College students What are a few ideas of places that would work in a place like this? I was thinking either a: Bar: College kids love to drink Arcade: A little more upscale like a Dave and Buster's Pool Hall I'm running out of ideas. Any help is appreciated. Ashtanga 0 #2 September 19, 2005 How about opening up a fruit smoothie bar called "Melons". You can serve smoothies and have waitresses dress up in tight "melons" t shirts tied to show their pierced belly buttons and they can wear short tight shorts with stockings on underneath. Eventually you can have your own "Melons" airline.
WatchYourStep 0 #3 September 19, 2005 There already is a Juice Stop in Lawrence so that probably won't work out that well. Thanks through "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out." chaoskitty 0 #4 September 19, 2005 I'm keeping my entreprenurial ideas to myself.. sorry! I like Ashtanga's idea.. except I'd call it "Bananas".. or possibly "Cucumbers" instead.
WatchYourStep 0 #5 September 19, 2005 I figured since you were in TN and I'm in KS we aren't really in the same market. SpeedRacer 1 #8 September 19, 2005 QuoteBar: College kids love to drink Arcade: A little more upscale like a Dave and Buster's Pool Hall I was just thinking about how I missed the OLD SCHOOL video games. Asteroids, tank battle, gunfighter, space invaders, battlezone, etc. Real low-tech, with blocky graphics, but I miss them. All video games nowadays have fantastic graphics, but they're all the same game really. Usually some musclebound mutants kung-fu-ing each other . So here's what you do: Open a bar/pool-hall that has an arcade of OLD FASHIONED video games. The machines could probably be found under wraps in warehouses and basements right now. So you could probably buy them cheap. You would get a bunch of business from 30 & 40 somethings who were nostagic for those games (plus they only cost a quarter). Pipe in '80s music & you'd have a whole theme going. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
loumeinhart 0 #9 September 19, 2005 you could try a laundromat that serves beer. Small one I used to use did pretty good.
