Pink Floyd's "The Wall"

Recommended Posts

Ok, this has always been one of my favorite albums, but I haven't listened to it in a few years because I only have it on vinyl and I no longer have a turntable (hmm, I need to correct that problem!)... So I just felt an overwhelming urge to listen to some of the songs and couldn't wait to order the CD... So I went to Napster and bought my favorite songs from the album: "Waiting for the Worms," "Hey You," "One of My Turns," "Comfortably Numb," "The Thin Ice," "Mother," and "Nobody Home."

Does anyone else love this album as much as I do??? And what are your favorite songs?

My favorite is ..........Wish you were Here.........

Ok, well that's not from "The Wall," but that is a damn good song... Now you made me go and download that one too. :P

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year..." :)

"..........Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears. ............."

"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest"
"There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"

There's nothing like an "album" being just that. Being able to listen to it from the first to the last song. "The rise and fall of ZS..." is another one in my book.
There are still "albums" being made. They just get less exposure.:|

Nine Inch Nails' (Trent Reznor's) "The Downward Spiral" was like that - tells a story and worth listening to from beginning to end.

Hmm, I haven't listened to that one. Bowie, eh? Sounds like something that I need to listen to. :)

:o
You, you need to! And in the same vein from DB, "The man who sold the world", "Aladdin Sane", etc...
Hurry up, you have some catching up to do.:|

The whole thing is good, and the movie is good too (I have to get that - Rich has never seen it!)... But do you have a favorite song from all of those??? I think my favorite is "Nobody Home" ("I've got wild staring eyes, and I've got a strong urge to fly, but I got nowhere to fly to.....")...

love that album! i remember going over to my buddy's place after school, closing the blinds, putting the vinyl on and laying back in la-z-boys to listen to it, after the proper amount of herbal intake of course. ;)

i also like ummagumma, especially the sysyphus songs, and of course, Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict.

My son is getting more into old-school rock so he borrowed a bunch of cd's from my brother and that was one of them. He thought it was really weird and hated it! On the other hand, he thought Meatloaf was pretty cool.

Yeah, that's a good one too. I had a tape of it, but I don't think I have it anymore. (None of my tapes ever lasted very long!)

I remember when "The Wall" first came out - I think I was about 8 years old. I would go over to one of my friend's homes - we were all into the Bee Gees at that time - and her parents were playing "The Wall" quite a bit, and I remember thinking it was total crap and wondering why they liked it so much. :D It wasn't until I was about 14 or 15 that I listened to it again and realized the beauty of it...

I still like the Bee Gees too though. :D

Don't forget the "Live in Berlin" version of The Wall.

Oh, I wanted SO much to go to that show! I was 18 years old when that happened, and I had just moved to Austin and was living on my own for the first time. I called around and got prices for plane tickets and such, but I just couldn't afford to do it at the time. :(

And actually I have never listened to that album...

Was it Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell"? I like that album too, especially the song "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" - one of the best love songs ever written. :D

Yes, it was "Bat out of Hell". He wasn't too thrilled with the love song, but he thought 'Paradise by the dashboard light" was really cool. We had to listen to the whole thing twice in the car. :| Then, I had to explain to him that Meatloaf was the person, not the group. He didn't really understand why someone would choose that as his stage name.

Any Pink Floyd Music always puts me straight to sleep. I tried watch the Movie "The Wall" about 20 different times.. Always fell asleep within the first 15 minutes. Any Pink Floyd song comes on and instantly I am sleepy.

A few years ago I finally found out why. Some random Pink Floyd song came on the radio while I was visiting my mother, My first response was turn that crap off before I go to sleep. My mother was shocked that I didn’t like Pink Floyd. She told me that when I was a Child my Father (a HUGE Pink Floyd fan) would always put on "Dark side of the Moon" when it was my nap time. I had absolutely no recollection of this but it suddenly made since why to this day, If you put on a Pink Floyd Album, I will fall asleep.
