And at least I have the Byron Boogie to look forward to (though I might be drinking a bit more than originally planned!)

Careful with that. Last time I drank more than I planned to at the Byron Boogie I ended up moving across the US less than a week later.:ph34r:

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuck.

So I'm job hunting. I get called by a headhunter about a job that's fucking PERFECT, tailor-made for me, a new challenge, new opportunity, something I can really get jazzed about, small, growing local company. I phone interview with HR and the hiring manager. They think I'm the shit. We're all getting along swimmingly. They tell the recruiter that they want to bring me back. We're all set for in-person meet and greets next week ... and I get a call from the headhunter today that the company is reorging and putting all new jobs on hold. And likely for good.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuck. Back to the drawing board. (And no, it's not like I don't have other things in the pipeline, but this one was the one that really got me jazzed).

Got to get back to the telephone,
Make some money from a complete unknown.
I know everything that I’ve got to say,
I know ’cause I’m a good businessman.
I can make you rich, I can make you a name,
Promise you the world if you’ll play my game.
If you don’t want to play it, don’t bother me.
That’s why I’m a good businessman.
A good businessman, a good businessman,
A good businessman, a good businessman.
If I find that you ain’t got no trust in me,
Then it’s time to use my psychology.
I can change your mind, I can turn you around,
I know ’cause I’m a good businessman.
Let me tell you now, I don’t need your respect,
Seems to me there’s one thing that you forget:
I ain’t in this business to be friends with you,
That’s why I’m a good businessman.

I was at the Lynnwood job fair today, and I was surprised to find that after years of never hearing any interest about it, my electronics experience caught the attention of several recruiters I spoke to. One recruiter from a North end electronics firm complained to me that a lot of IT folk were somehow "one-dimensional", and the my electronics background was something they really wanted their IT troops to have.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if it's possible, you should attempt to master several disciplines. People in show biz have to be able to do all kinds of stuff: They act, sing, dance, play several instruments, etc., because they are professional entertainers, and they don't know what talent will be called for in their next gig.

It's my opinion that the technical career world is like that nowadays; id est, that if you're going to have a successful career in the midst of all the shifting sands of tumult and change, you've got to have several really good arrows in your quiver, and be on the lookout for more, always scouting the horizon for the next plateau or ride that you can hitch onto.

Man, I used to work with recruiters alot and the truth is they don't always tell the truth

Been through this many times while I did my own contracting on Wall Street. It's a mean business. They _do_not_ have you're interests in mind. Only thiers.

You really need to follow up _directly_ with the people you spoke with. Fuck the recuiter. Otherwise, your good-person-attitude may end up fucking you and your family.

It's business, not personal. Treat it as such.

I have done that and am waiting to hear back.
