NWFlyer 2 #1 September 20, 2005 Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuck. So I'm job hunting. I get called by a headhunter about a job that's fucking PERFECT, tailor-made for me, a new challenge, new opportunity, something I can really get jazzed about, small, growing local company. I phone interview with HR and the hiring manager. They think I'm the shit. We're all getting along swimmingly. They tell the recruiter that they want to bring me back. We're all set for in-person meet and greets next week ... and I get a call from the headhunter today that the company is reorging and putting all new jobs on hold. And likely for good. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuck. Back to the drawing board. (And no, it's not like I don't have other things in the pipeline, but this one was the one that really got me jazzed). chaoskitty 0 #3 September 20, 2005 Don't worry.. when it rains, it pours. I had 2 job offers last week, decided to take one of them. Before I have the chance to quit my current job, my VP offers me a raise. I tell him thanks, but here's my notice.

If the company decides it doesn't want to do business with the recruiter, and you came in through him, you are _hosed_. Call the people you interviewed with and confirm what he told you. Why would they change their mind about a recruiter? Because he wants too much vig...We are all engines of karma
shall555 0 #5 September 20, 2005 Man, I feel for you. After the great tech downturn a few years ago I left Seattle for *anyplace*. It was really tough to go to interview after interview and hear "We selected a guy with a PhD to write the installer" or "We were looking for someone with 4 years of experience with version 3.1.4a of the development tool." It's insane, irrational and just frustrating as hell. Drink more beer... and rub a dab behind your ears before you go in for the next one ! Can't hurt! Good luck, though, really. You'll find something soon. You seem literate and sane, which gives you a leg up on 90% of the other candidates out there! shall

Why would they change their mind about a recruiter? Because he wants too much vig... It's a possibility, but this is actually one of the few recruiters who has been straight-up with me. I often get a shady vibe from recruiters and I haven't from this one. However, who knows whether the company was straight-up with them. I will probably send a quick email to the hiring manager to let him know that I hope the restructuring goes well and that I still think I could provide value to the company under the new plan (I'll likely be more specific than that). But I'm not counting on anything good to come out of this at this point."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. NWFlyer 2 #9 September 20, 2005 QuoteSeriously Krisanne I would definitely call the company all sneaky-like and just inquire as to where to send a resume and see what they say... But see, that's the thing. If the company had a contract with the recruiter and they ask me to go around the recruiter because they now have their candidate of choice (me) and don't want to pay the recruiter's fee, well, that's pretty shady too and I'm not sure that's the type of company I want to work for. All this is speculation of course. It could be that they're actually restructuring."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. CanuckInUSA 0 #10 September 20, 2005 I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat right now looking for work. Last week I did the initial interview over the phone for a job I was well qualified to do. I'm guessing that I lost the opportunity when the people asked me what I'm looking for in a new job. I told them that I had no problems putting in extra hours Monday through Thursday but that I would like to have weekends to myself. There is a trend these days in corporate America to get the workers to work 60+ hours and only pay them for 40 and this includes working weekends. Corporate America does not care about their people, they only care about the almighty dollar. Hopefully the right job for you and I will come around one day. But I'm not holding my breath at the moment. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Apollinaire 0 #16 September 20, 2005 Man, I used to work with recruiters alot and the truth is they don't always tell the truth. They may be getting the brush off from the company and tell you something like what that one told you to keep you in their pool of candidates so they don't lose a commission. Or, and I've heard this one over and over, they tell you how you are great great great for a job and then all the sudden they start telling you how your experience, etc. just doesn't measure up to the other candidates being presented, etc. That one they use when THEY have another candidate they are more certain is a done deal and they would rather put that person in front of the company than you. That one sucks because I've actually seen people get jobs where they persisted even though the recruiter said such a thing. Most people wouldn't and would lose out on a job opp. I say from experience, sneak sneak sneak and find all the open doors at the company you are interested in. Network from within. The recruiter is a SALES person and gets paid a commission. They are not your friends but the good ones will make you believe they are. Look out for #1-- now go get that dang job! And maybe I'll have my other friend drive tonight when we go out so I can get my drink on then!
