Regret in skydiving

Recommended Posts

Skydiving has been a blessing and a curse to this camper. But I'm grateful for all the jumps I've done and all the friends I may have made along the way. I am about to embark on an unknown future a little less than one month from now when I leave Colorado and move back to my native Canada (where I have yet to jump). So time will tell as to what sort of future in the jumping world up there. But I'm hoping that it's not all that different from what I know right now.

Oh and I'm thinking that I will need to create a new sceen name soon as I won't be that "Canuck" who's "in the USA". [:/]

Of all the jumps I've done, there are NONE I would call a waste, and only one that I regret, but that's personal

Please tell me it's not the demo jump we did at WFFC and you and I held a kiss pass till we opened;)

Of course not, dear! It's a hop n pop load that was thrown together that ended in a flight for life for a friend. I know it's not my fault, but ya know....

And Bolas, I don't use a CYPRES... :D

I doubt I would move to Georgia.....especially the Georgia near Chechnya. They don't play fair over there.

As for the United States of Georgia, I wouldn't mind making a trip down there...but with winter comin on, the earliest would be next Spring.

It sounds like a good idea...if I can find the money.
I live on Canada Pension and Old Age Security, and they don't want me to get fat by eating too much so they don't pay much.

I'll keep your invitation in mind, and see if maybe I can work something out.

***I'm not linz, but I'll answer this one

Man, this hurricane evacuation has gone to my head!

Your answer certainly helps. Now that my jumps have been put on hold for a little while, I can put some more thought into it; after the hurricane that is!

What do you think of a student skydiving only once or twice a month? I would love to do it more, but I already had a family when I got into the sport and feel guilty going to the dz every weekend. Is it possible for me to learn properly only jumping twice a month or so?

IMO you aren't going to progress far if you are only doing one or two jumps a month. Think about it, you are only in freefall for about 50 seconds.

I guess I didn't want that to be one of my regrets; that I sacrificed family to learn skydiving (especially since my boys are so young).

Balance is the key, and I give you a big hug to even think about your children. The sky will always be there, but in a blink of an eye, your children will be grown.

I agree. I waited until my kids were grown until I got back in the sky. Did I miss skydiving, YES, but I didn't miss seeing my kids grow up, their ball games, family vacations, etc. I think I made a good choice. I've got four great kids and one great wife. Now I have tons of skydiving buddies too. You can skydive at 45+ I'm doing fine at 50!;)B|

Boy Kathleen, I don't know the answer to that. Our skydiving club here only operates once a month, so some of the jumpers here have never jumped very frequently. In my estimation, they're not dangerous. Our situation is also that we operate one cessna on a HUGE airport. So things like canopy traffic are never an issue. There are definitely people who can answer that question better than I can though.

As far as sacrificing family, I DO know what you mean. I only have 1 son, and he HATES going to the dz. So I only consider days when he's not with me as options for jumping. Then if work or something comes up, then no jumping for me.

Even though I wish I could jump more, skydiving has become a much lower priority than it once was.

I regret that I took almost 5 years off. All those jumps and good times gone forever.

I regret that I didn't stay in the Army and go to the Golden Knights try outs.

I regret all the friends I have lost. Although I am happy that the sport brought us together, even if it was for to short a time.

You should regret not answering my PM since I'll be out in Perris this weekend. Might want to hide since you ignored me:P

The only regret I have is that I never got to see the sickest monkey I knew in freefall with me. I get to see him on video only, now, and I wish I could have been in the air with that daffy freak. He's gone now in a BASE accident and will always be missed, but if any of you jumped with Wagar, your lucky indeed.

You say, what's that sound coming out of the hole in the wood?

my 2pt. 4-way was with 3 divers who had 3000+, 600+, and 400+ jumps. there was absolutely no excuse for the way the dive came off.

we all have expectations in life. My expectations for that dive included pulling off more than 2 pts.

That's one of the reasons I freefly. I know not al of the Bellyflyers think like you do but they exist.
This kind of bullshit does not (or at least much less) exist in FF.
I'm with RevJim. I would never jump with you.
I have not regretted one jump so far.

Heh....maybe there just wasn't enough experience there to make up for the weak link...ya think?
