Jet Blue aircraft having problems with landing gear

dumped fuel? I'm not sure as I don't work on Airbus aircrafts, but I don't think these smaller airbus aircraft can dump fuel. I think they might be flying around Long Beach / LAX burning off fuel, not dumping the fuel. The heavier aircraft like 767 and 777 can because they can take off with much more fuel than they are allowed to land with so in emergency they dump fuel to lighten aircraft. I don't think these smaller Airbus aircraft can dump fuel? I might be wrong.. as I don't work on Airbus just the Boeing 767 & 777 who's systems I know pretty well..

The Airbus 320 does not have the capability to dump fuel. They have been flying around catallina in circles to burn off fuel. Also the all gear is down, but the nose gear is turned 90 degees from center line.

They are going to want the plane to land before it gets dark in case there is an issue, the light will make it easier to evacuate the passengers

Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

> Will keeping the gear down like that burn fuel more quickly?

Depends on the rest of the configuration - airspeed, speedbrake position etc. But generally yes.

I remember being in a Challenger when its nosegear wouldn't retract. Pilots wouldn't tell us what was going on; we just knew we were circling, and they just gave us nasty looks when we asked them what was going on. We circled and landed uneventfully. Then they discovered the 'remove before flight' pin locking the nosegear down. Pilot got fired a week later.

The nose wheel would not retract on takeoff. Looks like it rotated 90 degrees and jammed. They are going to try to bring it in on the main gear and keep the nose up as long as possible to minimize damage.

problem with keeping nose gear up long as you can is you need longest runway you can get as you can't use the brakes, thrust reversers, spoliers, well maybe spoliers... so.. your going need apporach as slow as can then let it roll long as you can with nose up...

IIRC, most larger jets have the spoilers linked to the weight-on-wheels switch during landing, to help prevent PIO's during botched landings (and to get you stopped a tad faster.)
