Need Car Insurance help.

Recommended Posts

Hi all
I have full covrage on my car.
However when I called Progressive about my cracked windshield they told me they do not cover auto glass. I asked why as in NY it was covered no matter what your deductible is. Glass was considered comprehensive. They said some states do not allow them to sell such insurance RI being one of them.

Does that make any since? Or is Progressive making shit up so they don’t have to pay?

I couldn’t find any thing on that law when I tried google.

Any help would be appreciated.

That really sucks. I have Progressive and I live in AL. I recently had to claim a glass break when a limb from a tree smashed it out from the hurricane. They were more than happy to help. Not sure about your location and problems. I have noticed on some insurance commercials that in fine print at the bottom of the ad, it mentions RI as a state for some kind of different way it is handled. Not sure, I would forget about asking when you are trying to claim and just call as a potential customer and see what they say. This is why I have a local rep. in my hometown sell me insurance. Sometimes it is much cheaper going through him than it is direct. Plus I get to ask questions to someone in person, not someone over the phone who could care less and is told to make the calls quick. Just my 2 cents.

Read your policy.

Ditto. "Full Coverage" should include auto glass. "Comprehensive" would include damage from non-driving things (e.g. vandalism, tree falling on your car) or non-collision things (objects from another vehicle or whatever) driving things. "Full Coverage" tends to mean all things liability + Collision + Comprehensive + Other stuff (UM/UIM, Med Pay, towing, etc.)

when I called Progressive

Could be your problem. Worst car insurance company I've ever dealt with. But in answer to your question, if it's not stated in the policy, they probably won't pay. I've had insurance co's in CO that sold me windshield replacement insurance for an extra $10-20/year. That was in case it got cracked by rocks. If it's broken in conjunction with other factors, such as a tree falling on your car, they would replace it at the same time as the other damage.

Here's another thing about windshield replacement. It's a huge scam. Insurance co's get kickback. Auto glass co's defraud insurance cos.

I once tried to claim a broken windshield as part of a break-in to my car. Insurance company refused to pay. Next day, I call dealer, who says front and side windows will be $550 for front, $150 for side. Second day, I got a "random" call from an auto glass company (read, crooked insurance co gets kickback for referrals from auto-glass co). They offer to replace both front and side windshields for $350 total. I tell them insurance won't pay - they say no problem. They replace my windshield and side window, I give them check for $350, and I leave insurance info blank on their form and sign it. Then they write my insurance co's name on the form, in different handwriting, after I sign it, and bill the insurance co for $3,000 - $2,100 for front, $900 for side. Insurance co calls me and says they won't pay - I tell them they shouldn't have tried to get a kickback from auto glass co in the first place. Insurance co calls auto glass co and tells them I authorized them to not pay (a lie). Insurance investigator calls me to tell me that they are investigating said auto glass co for fraudulent insurance claims - I told him to investigate insurance co while he's at it. Auto glass co calls and tells me I owe difference of $2,650 and they will send my bill to collections or they will "settle" for another $350 (the magic number! The difference between my original price and the dealer's original price just happens to be $350). I said no. Collections agent calls and says pay us - I say I have all receipts and dates/names of calls - take me to court. That's the last I heard of any of them.
