Andrewwhyte 1 #1 July 14, 2008 From the CSPA Chat list: Every once in awhile I stumble onto a treasure that delights me.... yesterday was such a day. What started out as a customer with an old pilot rig that needed to be repacked turned into something that should be in our national archives. For the more technically minded in our group: Out of an old Harvard, a seatpack made by Irvin Air Chute Ltd of Hamilton ON, as new, with patents listed ranging from 1922 to 1938. Container made of cotton with round bungees (POBs), harness made of cotton with 4 point QRB, cotton backpad filled with felt. Ripcords pins wound with copper wire and soldered (complete with corrosion from inadequate neutralizing -- apparently the standard of the day). Canopy was a 24' silk with silk A-1 'spider' pilot chute that wouldn't deploy. Last repacked Aug 1945. Cheers, al. RiggerLee 63 #6 July 14, 2008 Tell him I will buy him a brand new pilot rig of any design, of any color, with any options in exchange for his little treasure. LeeLee lee@velocitysportswear.com www.velocitysportswear.com
darkwing 5 #7 July 14, 2008 Quite a while ago a guy brought me a similar rig to pack. I told him it wasn't airworthy, and no rigger I knew would pack it. He got mad, saying I was trying to sell him a new rig. I offered him the new rig at cost, and he was still mad. He went to the FAA and they told him to pay close attention to what I said, and stop bothering them. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
