happythoughts 0 #1 September 29, 2005 QuoteHuman embryos created using a so-called "virgin conception" technique have been made in the UK for the first time. The Roslin Institute, which also cloned Dolly the sheep, reported the so-called parthenotes at a Dublin conference. They are made by stimulating a human egg to start dividing like an embryo without the addition of any genetic material from a male sperm cell. Get it while you can guys. Another 5 years and guys are on their way to extinction. QuoteAnd scientists have induced parthenotes artificially in creatures such as mice and monkeys, although it very often results in abnormal development. ...monkeys with an excess of body hair. QuoteIn normal reproduction, eggs would kick out half their genetic material in preparation to receive the male complement delivered by a sperm cell. Throwing out the defective parts and replacing them with improved parts can only help.

Bad idea genetically. You guarantee expression of bad recessive traits. Much better to do an autosomal clone.

I think I would take my own life if faced with the reality of an entirely female population... Or just start another planet for all the poor men. All the poor men, and ME! Two words, Menstrual Synchrony (the tendency of women's menstrual cycles to converge). A heavy flow () of controversy has existed ever since researcher Martha McClintock first reported the phenomenon in 1971. It was based on a study that she conducted in a women's residence hall (later published in Nature). Some scientists claim that women who live together will have periods that eventually start to coincide. I'm thinking that there is one day a month that everybody gets to stay home. ACMESkydiver 0 #15 September 29, 2005 QuoteI have "heard" that women in Basic training go through this Menstrual Synchrony. I didn't 'hear' it. I lived it. FYI, also happens in the barracks after basic...and in the sorority house. All-female organizations were murder, and I lived in them both in college and the army. I'm not sure why it seems a few of you are still referring to the regulating thing like it's a mystery...ask any woman that's been in an all-female group after puberty. It's no secret, it's just not something that we'd all love to discuss...~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
