I ordered one in black, 4GB model... mmm new toys :) I was going to buy a Mini last week, but a friend of mine at Apple told me to wait. I'm glad he did :)

Is it Flash or HD? I have a 20gig ipod, but want to get the Shuffle for jumping...I've heard the jumpsuit flapping in the wind beats the hell out of the hard drives and kills them eventually.

It's flash based, which is why I bought it. It's not actually the jumpsuit flapping, as much as it is the fact that there's not enough air pressure to create a proper air cushion between the drive heads and platters, so the heads physically hit the platters and eventually die.

wow nice! how much $ they asking for them on release?

hydro - I'd suspect they are flash.

$200 for the 2GB model, $250 for the 4GB. There's a $20 educational discount if you're a student. With overnight shipping and tax, mine was $256.

not bad... well worth the 50$ for a 4 gig. a two gig flash card runs about 120 now(retail).. I'm sure apple gets nice discount for quanity. I bet the access times are a bit less too if they are flash.

Incorrect. You're talking about read speed, not access time.

Access/Seek is faster from flash, you must be talking about read speed which is slower than a hard disk.

Modern flash can go 10-25 megabytes per second in read speed, so flash "read speed" is catching up to hard disks nowadays.

Hmmm - my current MP3 player is old school. Both my wife and my son have a more advanced one than I do.

We just can't have that!

I'm going iPod nano shopping! :P

'atta guy! Show 'em who wears the pants in the family! :D

Gotta love the marketing machine. "Educational discount" - maybe that's for students that just can't do homework unless they got good tunes going on in the background :S

that "marketing Machine" saved us 300 bucks on our last Mac we purchased. plus 100 bucks on the last iPod we purchased. Granted this was since my wife is a teacher, and they use Apples at her and at my daughter's schools.

if you use them for an external hard drive to bring stuff back and for to SCHOOL...yes it is educational..and happens to play lots of music too. it's easier to dump tests and what not on the iPod than to burn a CDR every time to go back and forth...
