kelel01 1 #1 September 30, 2005 Ok, I'm sick of playing the waiting game on these jobs. Should I call or e-mail a couple of them to see where they are in the decision-making process? Also, can anyone tell me what they look for in a background check? I have no criminal history, but I have no idea what else they look for. I'm concerned there may be something there they don't like, and it's holding me back.

kc10boom 0 #3 September 30, 2005 Being persistant never hurt; just ask to get an update on the interview/screening process. As for the back ground check, it depends on the amount of money the company wants to spend on the investigation. Most companies just check for criminal history and financial stability...don't sweat the small stuff If it is meant to be; it will...Boom...Out NKAWTG...N

kelel01 1 #6 September 30, 2005 I signed something regarding a background check. Credit checks might have been included. But my credit has significantly improved in the last 3 years, so that shouldn't be a problem. And HTF are you supposed to fix your credit if you remain unemployed? That's such bullshit. Thanatos340 1 #7 September 30, 2005 Definitely Follow up. Be Assertive without being aggressive. Don’t be afraid to ask very direct questions. Call and ask if the position has been filled and if not are you still being considered. As to the background check.. They are also probably contacting former employers. Do you have any former employers that would have less than nice things to say?? Even if you don’t list former employers on your résumé, they can find out who you worked for with a basic background check.

Only some companies do it, and they usually use it with other metrics. Depends on the job and stuff too - if you're $100,000 in debt and applying for a job where you could easily steal thousands of dollars, you might not get it.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
kelel01 1 #9 September 30, 2005 Ah, that makes sense. I was learning about employee fraud on The West Wing this morning, too.

gmanpilot 0 #11 September 30, 2005 QuoteI signed something regarding a background check. Credit checks might have been included. It depends on what kind of job it is. Sometimes the background check and adjudication for a government security clearance can take up to 18 months. The way they do it is really stupid. The three things that will hold up a background check are; 1) Credit history, 2) How many jobs you have had in the past 7 years, and 3) How many places you have lived in the past 7 years._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. kelel01 1 #12 September 30, 2005 Ok, so here's what happened. They can't seem to get the BG check run, because my driver's license # is also my SSN. Don't know where they can go from there.
