brucet7 0 #1 July 8, 2008 I am not sure I am in the right place, and the title isn't exactly right. Here is my question. I have just purchased some used gear with the help of my DZO. In fact, all I did was talk to her, ask her endless questions and then write the check. She knew of a container/reserve from an earlier search for another jumper and then found a canopy. I have paid for the gear, shipping costs, and a reserve repack. My question, am I supposed to add some for her help? She didn't ask, but then we tip people who provide other services for us.POPS #10623; SOS #1672
novacaine 0 #2 July 8, 2008 A buddy of mine went through something similar. Though the general consent at the DZ was that my buddy will now make more jumps with his own gear, adding more money to the DZO. So in hindsight, that is the tp to the DZO more business. Though just my $.02 of what a buddy went through.

councilman24 37 #4 July 8, 2008 My guess is that she doesn't expect any tip or compensation. Even if she hasn't been in the sport a long long time many of us do a lot to help newbies without expecting compensation. Paying to learn how to pack? Never happened when I started. Paid "Coaching" for newbies? It was called making a jump and helping someone else learn too. Paid packers, who then expect a tip? Never happened when I started. Skydiving becoming more business like was probably a good thing (not convinced) but people becoming more selfish with there time is not. The used to be called a brotherhood. Buy her a beer, pass on the help sometime and all is good. To get a feel of some of the history read United We Fall by Pat Works. Knowing where Bruce jumps there's a looooooong history in the sport at that dropzone and in the family. No matter which "she" he's talking about. Bruce, I'd agree with what others have said - I doubt there was an expectation of any compensation (other than the inspection & repack, of course, which you already mentioned). You might ask around to find out her favorite brew, though."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
