weird. usually they constrict before swallowing.

however, it is hard to kill another reptile by constriction. Constriction evolved for killing mammals. Due to their slow metabolism, a reptile can go for a long time with their breathing cut off.

Probably the python constricted it for the usual length of time, but the alligator was still alive.

I read another story that said the alligator was injured by another animal before the Burmese Python got it. They theorized the gator was still alive and started kicking as the python was swallowing it.
