Has anyone seen this film? It had a limited release in theatres last year and received a lot of critical acclaim. Its available on HBO on demand now. I watched it last night and I just found it amazing. The story, the detail, the characters. Great film! Highly recommended!

Fantastic film, I really enjoyed it. What is really amazing and one of the things that the movie has gained attention from is that the main character had no previous acting experience. Despite that, her performance was outstanding to say the least. I am pretty sure this is at Blockbuster now. If you see it on the movie shelf, it's definately one to watch and an extremely accurate depiction IMO.

This movie has actually been out for a quite awhile, I saw it in spanish while I was in Chile. It's really a great movie. If you'd interested in another good latin cinema movie try 9 queens, or Nueve Reinas. It's set in Argentina and its pretty damned good.

Gracias! I am looking for good Latin/ Spanish films. This one I would have watched regardless, I just didn't get a chance when it was in the theatres near me last year.

Saw it when it came out. I really like it a lot because it's so real and because it is the story of so many that have gone through or going through these similar situations, usually out of desperation or a desire for a better life but end up being their worst nightmare.

"Y tu mama tambien"
"The Motorcycle Diaries"
"Mala educación" (aka Bad Education)
"Hable con ella" (aka Talk to her)
"All about my mother"
and "Amoros Perros" right?

Some of them are pretty heavy but really worth watching.

I've seen 3 of those so far. Y Tu Mama Tambien is a favorite because it also features one of my favorite beaches! Gotta love the Oaxacan coast!
I just watched All About My Mother Last Night- loved it. For my Spanish class, I'm supposed to watch Women on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown, but I have to find it first!

Also for something a bit off the wall - 'Jamon Jamon'
(notable for, among other things, a young Penelope Cruz's film debut)
and for a more recent film - 'Roma'

And if you don't mind Portugese rather than Spanish, check out 'City of God' - amazing Brazilian film.

Good flick based on a true story. I think that is airing on HBO right now as is MFoG. Other good flicks that have been out for awhile (so they should be easy to find) include many of the titles from director Pedro Almodovar. He used Antonio banderas a few times and tends to use some of the same actors in his films all are pretty interesting if not slightly disturbing.
