Stuck in Santiago Chile

Recommended Posts

Quote

My flight was canceled, so now I have a day to spend in Santiago... any ideas on what to visit?

PS. Why do they have to move the punctuation around >:(

HA! and I mean that in the nicest way! :P The keyboards threw me for a loop when I was in Venezuela last summer too.
I dont know Chile, but I would suggest finding a nice hotel and ask them for a good resturant and chow down on local foods and alcohols! :P

I'm already in a great hotel, it´s the least the airline could do after keeping me up until 5AM yesterday, while shuttling me around the city... grrr I hate American Airlines right now.

I used to fly AA all the time, but over that time I noticed how much they sucked. Delays, overselling flights, poor customer service, etc.

Now I fly Delta, not much better mind you, but I have yet to hear them as for "volunteers" to get off the plane cuz they oversold.

Good luck, have fun, and be safe.
See ya on halloween!:)

They probably have some cool old churches and museums...

I would sample the local beer and liquor with reckless abandon, were I in your shoes, spreading the JACKASS Manifesto to the South American continent. And buy a 'Somebody went to Santiago, Chile and all I got was this lousy t-shirt' t-shirt.

Rosa, WTF is going on with the helmet in your new avatar? I think I need to see a full-size version.

And no, I don't feel the slightest bit bad about threadjacking this because it's not like Beth was getting any useful info on what to do in Santiago (well, except for Vinny's very generic "churches and museums" suggestion). And she'd better be out enjoying it anyway!

To help you on your quest for drinking excellence in Santiago, I have found the following:

Beer, Wine & Liquor -- Start your meal with a tangy pisco sour, the Chilean national drink made of the grape brandy pisco, fresh-squeezed lemon, sugar, and sometimes an egg white. Be careful -- they're potent.

Chile is known for its excellent wine production, but the country unfortunately exports its very finest varieties to outside markets. However, you'll find that restaurants and shops offer a selection of good to excellent wine varieties at low prices compared to U.S. standards. A simple but decent red table wine such as Santa Emiliana, for example, sells for $2.50 in the supermarket. Apart from lager, you won't find a wide selection of beer in Chile. Escudo and Cristal are the major Budweiser-like brands, but there's also Austral, Becker, and the darker Morenita. If you're in the Lake District, order Kunstman, probably the best beer in Chile. A schop is a draft beer.

You're the travel agent and tour guide. Just let me know when I need to be at the airport.
