What to do with a spare couch?

Recommended Posts

Agreed. :D Hippie and I were watching something yesterday that reminded me of the last one - it was some chemical manufacturing plant that blew up in Nevada. :D

I mean, the actual event in Nevada sucked, but seriously, the video of the explosion made me think of your party!

You could call the DZ (any of them) today, and see if someone currently at the DZ has a truck and will come get it. You could offer a free beer.

Or you could go ahead and put it by the dumpster, and then post something in the newsgroup alt.dumpster saying that a free sofa is on the corner of (wherever and wherever).

Make sure and post it on a local college online bulletin board as well, or if you know anyone going to school in the area tell them -- college students often like free furniture. Unless they're all rich, of course.

Go to dejanews (www.dejanews.com -- it's been taken over by google, but I never remember the name of the website that way). You can enter alt.dumpster in the search line, and that'll take you to the newsgroup. There's a selection on there for "post"

Now that I do it, I see that it's not very active any more. I guess people are richer. But try it anyway. You could also try misc.consumers.frugal-living -- it's a more active newsgroup, and seems to have real people on it.

Yes, I can be a cheapskate

call salvation army or good will. They'll come pick it up.

Not the one in Houston, they would not pick mine up!.......I tried to give my old one away and no one wanted it.....It was like new and I paid 1700$ for it! I finally put it on the street and it was gone in 10 minutes!:)

Hmmm -- I've had Salvation Army pick stuff up for me in Houston. No desks, though -- they said they have a whole warehouse full of desks.

Purple Heart Veterans in Houston seems to have the widest range of stuff it takes, though (I helped my dad move from a 2-BR overstuffed apartment to a 1-BR apartment recently, so I did some research).
