Mike111 0 #1 October 12, 2005 Hey, sometime this summer (2006), me and a friend are going to the states for a normal holiday ( no skydiving - hes a whuffo) but have no idea where to visit. We have no idea what we wanna do but wanna try and find a placewhich would offer a variety of different things, and book quite early to save money. Being so big and rich in both cultural and social events, picking a good one is veyr difficult. Could anyone recommend where to go where laods is on offer? Thanks, Mike
NWFlyer 2 #2 October 12, 2005 Well, that narrows it down. Depending on how long you have, I'd recommend flying into one of the major cities on the west coast (Seattle, San Francisco, or LA), renting a car, and hitting the road. Depending on when you're there (early summer or later) most of the west coast and adjacent states will have nice, gorgeous weather that time of year. Hitting national parks alone could keep you busy for months (pay $50 for a national parks pass at the first one you go to, then you can use it for admission to all the rest of them)."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. yardhippie 0 #3 October 12, 2005 It really depends on what you want to see. Parks and stuff? Landmarks? Nightlife? that makes a big difference.Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #
seekfun 0 #4 October 12, 2005 I would agree with hitting a major west coast city. Not only can you take in the city, but on the west coast you'll be able to pick recreational activities in any of the major environments: Beach Desert Forest Mountains Rivers etc. You can do quite a bit nestled between the Pacific and the west coast ranges."...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins

NWFlyer 2 #9 October 12, 2005 QuoteLas Vegas or New York City! Bear in mind Vegas will be really hot and NYC will be really humid if you're here in the middle of summer. Both great cities, but can be uncomfortable that time of year."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Nightingale 0 #12 October 12, 2005 Southern California. You've got hiking in the mountains and surfing in the ocean within an hour or so's drive. There's also Disneyland, Sea World, and some other theme parks, and we've got several national parks within a day's drive, including Yosemite, Sequioa, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley. Hollywood is about an hour away from Disneyland, and it's fun to walk around the walk of fame, and you can even go see a TV taping if you want to. Go to Jerry's Deli or Pink's hot dog stand, and you'll possibly see a celebrity or two. There are a lot of great clubs and places to go at night in LA and San Diego. Venice beach is fun during the day, and there's an international hostel not far from the beach, if you want to keep your lodging costs low and still stay in the Los Angeles area. Plus, you can visit the Perris Wind Tunnel.

Squeak 17 #16 October 13, 2005 Hi Mike from a non biased point of view (i.e., I'm not a sepo) I spent 9 weeks traveling around ther states, and the city i had the most fun in is San Fransisco, from there you can pop up to Oregon and Washington, down to LA, and/or across to Las Vegas. Plus they know how to party in SF, I stayed in the Green Tortoise Backpackers in North Beach http://www.greentortoise.com/san-francisco-hostel/index.phpYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS!
