GiaKrembs 0 #1 October 12, 2005 Does anyone else out there have a severe phobia of needles??? I have to have blood drawn on a regular basis (becoming les and less - THANK GOD), but no matter how often I go, I still cannot get used to the darn needle. I'm either hyperventilating / or passing out. I feel like such a freak!!! I'm thankful that I have such a wonderful patient doctor~ g Raddest ho this side of Jersey #1 - rest in peace brother Beth lost her cherry and I missed it .... you want access to it, but you don't want to break it. IanHarrop 42 #2 October 12, 2005 Nope I donate plasma every week and they use a big ass needle to draw out the whole blood and then after they've separated out what they want, they force what they don't want (red blood cells and other goo) back into my arm. Just on my way now - I go every Wednesday."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

PLFKING 4 #4 October 12, 2005 Seriously....when I was younger, I had the same phobia. But in high school and college, I started experimenting with MDA and heroin, and that fear quickly vanished, and has never returned. Not saying you should go to that extreme, but it is an option. skymama 37 #8 October 12, 2005 Not me. When I was a kid, I had to get allergy shots every other week for 6 years. I got pretty used to it, now I hardly even blink when the needle goes in. I usually make the phlebotomist so nervous he/she ends up missing my vein... then I start begging for the Dr. to come and draw. One time I walked out with 6 different punctures. Rebecca 0 #11 October 12, 2005 Due to my translucent white skin, and my big fat blue veins being close to the surface, even the most inept rookie has no problem drawing my blood. This is probably why I have no fear of needles. I actully prefer watching... Shots in the arm or hip suck. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? catfishhunter 2 #12 October 12, 2005 I was, then wasn't, then am again. Long story...Today I can't watch movies like pulp fiction or Gia or any other movie with drug use that doesn't make my arm itch... Prefer to never put another needle in me. seekfun 0 #13 October 12, 2005 The doctor is NOT the person you want drawing your blood. Doctors rarely draw blood, start IVs, inject IV medications, etc. That stuff is all put off on the nurse, medical assistant, or the like. If you ever need a needle to go into a vein, look for a paramedic or a military medic. Anyone that can start an IV in the back of a moving ambulance or helicopter can hit ANYONE'S vein."...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins

However for some reason my doctor can always hit it and it's quick and painless. There is only one other person in my doctor office that I trust, and know I usually beg for her as well. g Raddest ho this side of Jersey #1 - rest in peace brother Beth lost her cherry and I missed it .... you want access to it, but you don't want to break it. But it's part of your charm girl I did have a breif issue with needles once. I went to give blood and the woman couldn't find my rolly veins, which happens to me sometimes. Usually they get it after 1 or 2 tries but it took her 3 tries in one arm, then she thought she got it and a little blood came out of it once but then it went all the way through the vein and I got this big ass bruise instantly so then she tried 3 more times in the other until she could get it. My arms were bruised and I looked like a heroin addict. I stopped giving blood for a while after that. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)
