Thanatos340 1 #2 October 13, 2005 We just resently lost my alltime favorite Blues Man. Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. I first heard him when I was in College and got to see him perform quite a few times live over the years. ALways a great show. Check out some of his music if you get a chance. lawrocket 3 #5 October 13, 2005 There are so many good bluesmen out there tha it's tough to narrow it down. It's so regional that you may have trouble finding Coco Montoya out where you are. Note: My blues mentor, JJ "Bad Boy Jones" died a year and a half ago, shortly after my move up to Fresno. I miss him. Here are some that I really enjoy: 1) Walter Trout - while not a new guy, he's the most amazing guitarist I've ever seen. Former guitarist for canned heat and sideman for John Lee Hooker and John Mayall. The dude is simply incredible. 2) Keb Mo' - blues purists dig on him, but I love his acoustic/country/folk/slide blues. And a heckuva nice guy, actually. 3) Charlie Musselwhite is old school, but still around. 4) Coco Montoya is all right for some old style blues-rock. 5) Susan Tedeschi - she's got the look, the voice, and the style. Check her out. 6) The Fabulous Thunderbirds/Kim Wilson/Jimmie Vaughan are all great. 7) Rod Piazza and the Mighty Fliers - they do a great show! 7) My wife is hotter than your wife. This woman is just incredible - her voice will move you. Just hearing "It hurts so bad" will win you over._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... lawrocket 3 #10 October 13, 2005 Robert Cray is great for mood music on a date. His show is smooth, and not too energetic. Jeff Healey, on the other hand, does a great show! When I saw him, I was expecting a guy who was pretty good for being blind. Turns out, that cat stole the show that day. My wife is hotter than your wife. lawrocket 3 #14 October 13, 2005 Eric Johnson? A GREAT guitarist outta Texas. I'm sure you've heard some of his stuff. The most famous is "Cliffs of Dover." Amazing guitar work on that Gibson ES-335. His normal instrument is a Strat. He's simply phenomenal. My wife is hotter than your wife.

RastaRicanAir 0 #18 October 14, 2005 Damn kids, always thinkin' NEWER means BETTER!! You can't keep eating the fruit without tending to the root. Starting on the Delta, naturally: Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Tommy Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Sonny Boy Williamson. (NOTE: If Big Bill Broonzy's voice does not result in physical chills, consult a cardiologist IMMEDIATELY) Then if you must sate the electricity fetish in your overstimulated 21st century ears, move on to Elmore James, Junior Wells, John Lee Hooker and Little Walter. (WARNING: By the time you get up to Freddie King, Albert King and Bobby 'Blue' Bland, you'll never feel quite the same awe for the Allman Brothers, Clapton or SRV again.) That concludes today's curmudgeonly music lecture. Download homework at your leisure this weekend. There will be a quiz.OrFunV/LocoBoca Rodriguez/Sonic Grieco/Muff Brother #4411 -"and ladies....messin with Robbie is venturing into territory you cant even imagine!-cuz Robbie is
lawrocket 3 #19 October 14, 2005 QuoteYou can't keep eating the fruit without tending to the root. This goes without saying. But some of us, like me, are pretty familiar with those old blues legends. But, it's also nice to see some newer guys who do things differently. Or, even the old guys, like BB, Buddy and the like (such as Charlie Musselwhite, whom I have cited) who are still around and can wipe the floor with any of these kids nowadays. My wife is hotter than your wife.
skymedic 0 #20 October 14, 2005 I never said newer was better...I just have a ton of blues music...almost 60 gigs of it on my HD(something like 20days of blues). I started listening to the blues about 10yrs ago when I was going through chemo...for some reason it brought me up. go figure. I'm just looking for some new names that I havn't heard of. due to the regionality of the blues...there are already a couple on here I hadn't heard of and don't have music too. Thanks so much for the info guys...keep it coming.. Oh and good blues music like a root canal...that's awesome!!! Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman.... ChasingBlueSky 0 #23 October 14, 2005 Quotefor some reason it brought me up. go figure. Just means you understand the blues....it always makes me feel good...it's all about being alive. It's not for everyone, but when you get what it's all about...it stays in your soul. For me anything with some good harp, piano or guitar works for me. I listened to the PBS blues cd's on one of my many long road trips and have to say it's amazing stuff....and introduced me to some legends I didn't know about. Well worth the cost. Have you checked out anything by Johnny Winter? Robert Randolph is one my new favorite artists. Bo Diddley is amazing in concert. Anything on the old Chicago Chess Records is worth buying. Listen to Robert Johnson and you will how one man influenced several generations of musicians....and then there is Jr Wells.... One of my most memorable days at work while still in radio....one of my coworkers is walking down the hall with this short guy....turns to me and says...Bo, have you ever met Jr. Wells? I laugh and say of course not...Wells lifts up his head and says "now you have." Then I got to watch a studio jam session of Jr and a couple of his local friends. Just....incredible._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
