Ipod's

Recommended Posts

I used the search and did not find any current threads on these, although it has been discussed at great length in the past. Since the tech world advances so fast I thought I would start a new thread rather than read threads from last year.

There are many different MP3 type players out on the market. The Ipod seems to be the more expensive of the lot. What would you all buy today or this fall if you were in the market? Any links I should read up on. A google search came up with a million pages but trying to sift through the current ones is a pain.

Thanks in advance

The iPod would be an excellent choice -- not only does it play music, it now plays music videos, and displays pictures. You can even subscribe to Podcasts for free (Skydive Radio is one of those). The best thing -- you can listen to music continuously for at least 15 hours straight on a single battery charge.

I have a 1st generation iPod Mini and absolutely love it but the battery only lasts me 4 hours. Two days ago, I ordered the new 60GB iPod. It's slightly thinner than the old one, holds 15000 songs (25000 photos and 150 music videos), and the battery lasts 20 hours!

It's worth the investment.

the other advantage is that there is the iTrip - a mini transmitter so you can listen to your iPod through your car radio - the reason I ended up buying an iPod. I couldn't find any other MP3 player with this accessory.

I kinda like the sony walkman that I bought. It plays all sorts of formats of music including. I can play mini disks as well as uses sony's HD media which are 1 gig disks. if you need to expand a 1 gig disk costs only 7 dollars.

FM transmitters for ANY MP3 Player are available for about half what an iTrip costs. Also Changing the Broadcast channel on the iTrip is a pain and required that you have "Songs" stored on your iPod that will change the frequency for you. This presents a Problem when you leave you Ipod on Shuffle as I do on long road trips and suddenly the "Change Frequency" song comeson.
The other less expensive FM transmitters have a switch that allows you to Change frequencies.
I had 2 different iTrips so far. First one quit working, took it back to Best Buy. Got another one. Worked for about 2 moths and quit. Bought a $14.95 generic FM transmitter at a Truck Stop, Worked every since and I was finally able to get rid of those frustrating Frequency Change "Songs" on the iPod.

For a guy that loves his "generic mp3 player" so much yet thinks his Ipod is a piece of crap you sure use it enough.

Everything you have said lately sounds fishy to me. I think you may have just sold me on an Ipod

I’m pretty pleased with my 6GB Mini. It fell off my belt down a mesa and, while it now looks like crap, it still plays fine except for the occasional skip when I run (an induction phenomenon?). OTOH iTunes is a lousy piece of engineering and I go through a bag of earphone covers a day on average, I whether Apple will ever fix them so they stay put …

Just trying to FACTS out there.

Lots of misinformed people.
Such as this example where the person thought that an FM transmitter was somehow specific to an iPod.
Or where people thought that PodCasting was Limited to iPods. All False.

Other MP3 Players do more and cost less.

And now that you can make an informed decision to pay more for a product that does less.. Go for it!!
That will show me!!:S:S

Hey.. want to buy a slightly used iPod Mini?? I will throw in a Non working iTrip for free.

in the UK, all FM transmitters are against a law made in the 1940's, and the iTrip is the easiest to get hold of...
