kevin922 0 #1 October 19, 2005 What do you guys think of this new program.. basically they are promoting downsizing within the first year (or 200 jumps) by giving you free downsized gear when you turn your old stuff in. I think this could be trouble for some...
Beverly 1 #2 October 19, 2005 Well you can only go one size down, so might not be opening a can of worms just yet. Our students are on 280's, then 230's then 200's and then they have to buy their own gear. They are also not allowed to have a wing loading exceeding 1.0 under 100 jumps. (For main or reserve) So I don't think too many people here will be taking up that offer. Peej 0 #3 October 19, 2005 Plus, imo, actually managing to do 200 jumps in your first year of jumping here in SA isn't an easy thing to do Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

Beverly 1 #5 October 19, 2005 As long as you are above a 1.0 wing loading at 50 jumps. Many people are loathe to get gear while they have to get 190/170 rigs. They borrow or rent from the club. Still not convinced that they will be taking up the offer. Maybe if they hit the 300-500 jumper they might get a better response. I jumped second hand old gear for 750 jumps....... Most of the people at my DZ plan on keeping their 170's and 190's for awhile. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. I fall (no pun intended) into that category...you young guys take the pillow cases and sell your old giant tarps to me...My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. cocheese 0 #8 October 19, 2005 I have over 500 jumps on my 150 and i still don't have a need to downsize. I'm not getting younger and I'm not that bored with it yet. I feel like buying one to put on the shelf just in case something happens to this one.

Holy crap! I read it as do 200 jumps in your first year and we'll facilitate your downsize! On closer inspection i see it actually says: "If you decide to change your main canopy within the first year or before 200 jumps, we will exchange it with a brand new one, one size down at NO CHARGE**" That doesn't sound good. Unless of course the guy bought something like a 200 or a 190 and he's ready to go to a 170. I hope these dudes would use some common sense and ask about weights and wingloadings before exchanging Joe Schmo a brand new 150 that puts him at 1.3 with 65 skydives... Joe Customer is looking for a new main. He's been jumping a 190 and thinks it's a dog. He wants to go to a 150. Instead of going straight from 190 to 150, this program lets him put a couple hundred jumps on a 170 without eating the depreciation. Jane Customer has been jumping a Sabre2 135. She wants to get a Stiletto 120, but doesn't have much experience on fully elliptical canopies. With this program, she can switch from a Sabre2 135 to a Stilletto 135 and use a hundred or two hundred jumps getting used to the shape differences before adding in the size difference between a 120 and a 135. Sounds like a nice stepping stone system. I don't imagine they'll be any more likely to facilitate the downsize than they would be to sell the smaller sized canopy in the first place. ZooDive 0 #11 October 19, 2005 Most students learn on a 200 or bigger. The program is really aiming for people that have a couple hundred jumps and who are thinking about getting a rig of their own and are not willing to go through the used-gear-selling process and the used-gear-buying process again. Of course a lighter newly-graduated student could take the offer, but that same jumper could just buy any used rig anywhere else anyway. At least now he (or she :)) won't be as tempted to directly go for a smaller size to save money since he can jump a bigger canopy basically free for a while. As an AFF instructor myself, rest assured that I never sell anything unreasonable to anyone. If the program ends up being a concern for safety, we’ll just cancel it or change it. If you guys would like to see another offers for more experienced jumpers, packages or whatever, let us know, we’ll make it happen. We are trying hard to provide good service, and programs like Evolution! are here for the community. I bought a used rig with a Sabre 170, just downsized (at 130 jumps and 20 lb weight loss) to a Spectre 150 bought new. I've been jumping a year.
