livendive 8 #27 October 18, 2005 It was an incredible shot. I was somewhat surprized they pitched to him, and I'm more of a "streaks are meant to be broken" kind of guy (as opposed to a "ride the streak"). Still, that was freaking clutch. I was listening to the game in my truck, and I don't really care who wins this series as I kinda like both team. With that in mind, I was yelling on the crack before the announcer even had time to explain what was happening. I got goosebumps, pounded on my steering wheel, and swerved all over the road for a second...just from a radio call of a game that I'm pretty much ambivalent on. Clutch performances and heartbreaking lapses both dig pretty damn deep at us. In the 9th inning last night, we got both at the same time As all the talking heads are saying today, that hit will live on for quite some time...longer if the Cards win 2 more. With Oswalt going against Mulder tomorrow night, you have to like the Astro's chances. Momentum switches be damned, the chip from last night and the favorable match-up (with Clemens to follow) says Houston is still bound for the classic and the Pujols jack becomes an interesting footnote, albeit one almost every kid has dreamed of hitting. Blues, Dave ____________________________________ I have to agree. Like Pujols or not, that, was a helluva hit. Cards fans are going to talk about that hit for a long time, like you said. My money is still, on the 'stros. I've been a 'stros fan, since they moved into the Astrodome and changed names. There for awhile, it looked like 'Cardinal melt-down'. Then, Pujols (that bastard) slaps one in the cheap seats. Shee-it! Chuck

murrays 0 #39 October 18, 2005 When Eckstein came up I said to my 6 year old..."He's a pesky tough out" ...and he hits a seeing eye single on an 0-2 count...good pitch by Lidge, good hitting by Eckstein. Then, when he was pitching to Edmunds, I said to my little guy "we've got to end this here, we don't want Pujols coming up with 2 men on"....and Lidge walked him. Well, you know the rest. Sure was disappointed for Biggio and the other Astros who I'd like to see play in the WS before they retire. But, I still like their chances with Oswalt and Clemens (if needed). Here's hoping they can pull together and win it on Wednesday.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

His fastball clocks at a hundred, his slider can't be hit And Redbird fans do cry and swoon, as his warm ups hit the mitt. The Stroville faithful dance and scream, as one they raise their cheer Their closer need but three outs, for this to be their year. The first two batters took their cuts, but Lidge just mowed them down And the building rocked and strangers kissed, in anticipation of the crown. But one more out was needed, and the top of the order now due As Eckstein walked up to bat, the fevered pitch just grew and grew. Lidge pounded Eckstein with two strikes, he had his good control. He took second without a play; all that mattered was at the dish "One more out" the fans cried out, only this their prayer and wish. Jimmy Edmonds now dug in deep, his jaw was clinched and tight And an edge crept into the stands; for they sensed they had a fight.
