packing_jarrett 0 #1 June 20, 2008 Background: I've made lots of transactions through dropzone.com and its how all my friends and I sell gear. There have been interesting ways I've seen things get shipped. For instance what things to send with different parts of gear. When sending/recieving a harness/container You should recieve the harness and container as described. You should also get the main risers with toggles, the main d-bag with pilot chute, the reserve toggles, and the reserve freebag and pilotchute that goes with the specific harness and container. Too many times have I recieved rigs that have come without risers. I've gotten a freebag from a 1970's Racer and I thought I would be getting a 2003 infinity, etc. When sending/recieving a main/reserve canopy You ship the actual airfoil, the lines, the slider, and the links. Some form of attaching the lines and the risers. You do not need to send a d-bag with the canopy. Risers are not meant to be sent with tthe canopy. I've recieved a lot of canopies without links. Whats the deal? has something changed that I don't know? Just send the links; it makes it so much easier to put on risers when there are some form of links (rapide links, Soft links, slinks)Na' Cho' Cheese
faulknerwn 38 #2 June 20, 2008 I completely agree. I help a lot of rookies here with their first gear, and I don't think a single one of them recently has been on links! Links go with the canopy people! It makes it a nightmare to untangle them from zip ties and other things and get them on straight. Send them on connector links and its a much faster assembly. I think the problem has arisen because people starting using slinks ($20) instead of metal links ($4) and don't want to buy new ones....

masterrigger1 2 #4 June 20, 2008 Jarrett, You forgot one important thing: "Contact Info"..... You would not believe the number or people that send their gear in without any contact information or return shipping info in the box with it. The other thing is they should be put the gear into a heavy plastic bag and closed with either tape or a rubber band. Some of the manufacturers may be contributing to the confusion. Recently I see new canopies from the mfg that are attached to the card with zip ties, while the links are in a separate baggie. This sort of makes it look like the links were an afterthought as opposed to being part of the canopy.
hajnalka 0 #6 June 22, 2008 I believe this is because the buyer has the choice of slinks or rapides, and the canopy is packaged ready for quick installation of whichever is supplied. Initial assembly tends to be much simpler than mixing & matching components. But, I do see your point about originally receiving only canopy/card, and how some might think this is how it should be done. Excellent post & thread, thank you! I hope you've educated some people. sagan 0 #7 June 25, 2008 I would also comment on also ensuring no pun intended that the package is insured, trackable, and requiring a signature. The only thing that stands out in my mind with the links is that when you inspect the canopy, inspect the LINKS TOO!! Especially if they are slinks! Could someone also comment on best method for exchanging payment. I've done a few different thins myself including, personal check, money order, paypal (costs too much IMO) and in all kinds of order, after receiving, before receiving, etc, etc. I know when I was starting out I would have gladly paid for a "how to buy and sell gear" lesson along with a explanation of the differences in features, etc.-Patrick
