sinker 0 #1 October 18, 2005 Hi everyone. Just wanted to share something that struck me in a recent thread... there was what many thought to be a highly amusing thread started by a newbie. Later, said newbie shared that he may have a mild form of autism called Aspergers Syndrome. There was a lot of playful banter in the thread, mostly in good fun and not aimed dericively at the newbie I don't think. It wasn't learned until much later in the thread that this person may have Aspergers, which could account for some communication misconnections in the thread. That having been said, I just wanted to say that, me included, we can be a little rough sometimes as a community, and I hope this person was not hurt or offended by the replies he received in the thread. It is hard to really perceive the "person" behind the posts sometimes, and in this case, after the disclosure that the poster may have a mild form of autism, the thread, for me, took on a whole different picture. It was a good reminder for me to remember that the person behind the post is much more than just their mispellings, grammar, questions, etc., especially if they are new here and trying to get the lay of the land, and our replies can have a profound impact, for good or ill, on them. Hope this makes some sense. Know that i'm not at all trying to be judgemental towards anyone that posted in that thread. Rather, i'm looking more at my own behavior and it's possible ramifications... Ashtanga 0 #2 October 18, 2005 Good point, Michael. About 99.9% of my posts on here are made as jokes. If I offend somebody by my remarks I apologize. Please DO NOT take my posts serious.

Nice of you to say... I certainly know to not to take you too seriously, and find you to be incredibly funny... hopefully said poster will read this too and there won't be any ill-feelings... and for all I know, there aren't any anyway, just want to make sure there aren't... -the artist formerly known as sinker
Keith 0 #4 October 18, 2005 As Nate said, Good point Micheal. If the poster does have Aspergers Syndrome, this might be a good time to educate us it. If he's willing that is. I know I'd like to hear about it.Keith Don't Fuck with me Keith - J. Mandeville
JUDYJ 0 #5 October 18, 2005 I don't think 'he' was offended. I talk with 'him' in PM's. You are right... we mean what we say...but we aren't mean about what we say. That's what I am trying to help him understand. For those who would like to know more http://www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/ Another factor.. and I am sorry the thread was closed before we could share more..is that no matter how old you are or what you carry to these forums..if you are going to post then you play by the rules. I think this is a good experience for us all~~ IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!

GiaKrembs 0 #24 October 18, 2005 That's great to hear Steven! Do you find it easier to communicate on line versus in person? I would presume it would minimize the sensory overload... Good luck on here... the crowd is a bit rowdy, but for the most part this community is one of the most tight nit I've ever met.
