highfly 0 #2 October 20, 2005 That looks pretty cool. Love that superman in pic 3. Theres a load of Paragliding going on here in Auckland. A lot of people go off of Devenport Volcano and just sit there floating for hours looking at the view. Im almost tempted to have a go myself but worried that I may like it too much and end up buying a rig. You can pick them up here for as little as $1500 NZ www.myspace.com/durtymac
shropshire 0 #3 October 20, 2005 QuoteIm almost tempted to have a go myself but worried that I may like it too much and end up buying a rig. Thats sort of what happened to me.... I love both skydiving and PGing.. Related and different (). I get a big buzz from freefall and a challenge from flying Cross country. I also get MUCH more canopy time from my glider. YISkyDive 0 #4 October 20, 2005 I was really looking at into PGing for awhile.. but the canopies seem to be, well diffrent from higher performance parachutes.. kinda holds me back a little. how do you like? Obviously front riser turns, snap turns, and more or less ram air canopy performance features are out- but is cruising up there fun? Maybe id get a kick out of trying to go up under fabric- but im just So In Love with high performance flight of parachutes (forget swooping, I mean snap turns, harness turns, riser and so on) that PGing seems so diffrent and well- slower. Have you ever tried hang gliding? That seems, on adavanced ships anyway, to have the performance and snap- but also a bigger hit to the wallet and more set up im guessing. I really hope you enjoyed your trip and I hope you enjoy the sport! Pics look awsome. dave.
shropshire 0 #5 October 20, 2005 Thanks Dave, Yes the canopies are different from skydive rigs... They may have larger areas but are very high performance aerofoils and even modern intermediate PGs carry a LOT of energy. <> - owww you'd be surprised... very surprised... ACRO and what in skydiving, we call CRW, is really big in the PG world... These are no longer pussy kites...... and NOT slow. We do harness based turns (actually it's easier due to the harness (weight shift) and lower hang points). No, I've not HG'd ... not enough time, what with the skydiving, PGing and wife Take a look at ....clicky or more ACRO clicky (.)Y(.) Cloggy 1 #6 October 20, 2005 So jealous... I was supposed to go paragliding near Grenada (Spain) last week. Just couldn't get the holidays approved... It's incredible how the wings have improved over the past years. A twitchy competetion wing from say six years ago is easily outperformed by a recent fun to fly and stable intermediate. And if you want you can do some radical stuff. Wing overs, fast spiral. But better not touch the front risers...
