freeflir29 0 #2 October 20, 2005 I have to find this little shop in town here. Seems the guy has a bunch of watches that Saddam gave to his Army officers. They are Breitling and one of the guys bought one for $400 and took back to the states for an apraisal. Seems it is worth several thousand! Don't know what model it is though. okalb 104 #5 October 20, 2005 Then maybe you can help me decide between orange or black. These are actually not the Militaire, they are the chronoscopia but they are very similar and I can't find pictures of the other.Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana
mr2mk1g 10 #6 October 20, 2005 Wouldn't say I was "really" into my watches, but what I have I am more than happy with. I have an Omega Speedmaster chronograph - famous as the only watch to have been certified by NASA for use in space. And a Suunto Observer in steel which is rather useful under canopy. bmcd308 0 #10 October 20, 2005 I'll chime in with a vote for the black. You can wear it with so many more things. And my watch is a Breitling Colt. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
freeflynick 0 #11 October 20, 2005 If I could afford a Breitling, I would have one! I used to have a really nice immitation, blue face, 3 small dials, don't know model name, but it got nicked in Trinidad. I now have a really sweet Sector 500, whicte face, 3 dials, 2 small digital squares for dates, stopwatch etc. I love it! If they were good enough for Partick De G, they are good enough for me!! okalb 104 #12 October 20, 2005 See, I would agree with the black goes with everything comment if it were my only watch. Since I have other watches that go with everything, I was thinking of being a little different and getting the orange. It is too tough to decide, I really think I need both Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Kid_Icarus 0 #15 October 20, 2005 Watches are magnificent pieces of art. I personally am in to Patek Philippe. They are nothing short of perfection. Definitely a different style than most, as I personally don't prefer metal bands or clunky watches. Check them out, the Calatrava is a nice place to start, and there are several stores in NYC that have beautiful vintage Pateks. ________________________________________ "What What..... livendive 8 #16 October 20, 2005 I'd really like to be into watches, but an allergy to something in cheaper grades of metal prevents it. I can get something with a surgical grade stainless back (actually, I have one, some Kenneth Cole thing), but I can't find a source for surgical grade SS or titanium pins to hold the band to the watch, or the pieces of the band together (if metal band), or the buckle (in a leather band). I know, those pins don't touch the skin, but they're close enough to make it so I can't wear a watch for more than a couple hours. Being as I haven't ever owned a watch that fits the bill, and jewelers don't ever know what the metals used in those pieces are, I'm not gonna shell out big bucks on something that I will most likely not be able to wear. It sucks...I'm stuck using my cell phone as my watch. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

okalb 104 #18 October 20, 2005 I would check fist, but I am thinking that the higher end titanium watches use titanium pins as well. Check out the Breitling Avenger. It is all titanium and I would bet the pins are as well. -OKTime flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana
freeflir29 0 #19 October 20, 2005 My "work" watch is a Sharp Chrono/Alarm thing. Bought it for $20 in a drug store in Alexandria, VA before I left for Iraq the first time. Almost 6 months on the job and still working!

Agreed. It's easy to get a decent watch back and bracelet. The tough part is the pins (not visible) and in some cases the buckle. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" In the past, jewelers have always told me "Well, I'm pretty sure you'll be ok with this one...you should buy it". Pretty sure doesn't justify the kinds of prices higher end watches demand, and none of them seem to actually *know*. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" jraf 0 #24 October 20, 2005 Omega Seamaster - it is great. Stainless steel is such a noble material.
