Daylight Savings time change

Recommended Posts

Yeah! 1 more week until we get an "extra hour" of sleep. :D However, did you know that in the US starting in 2007, the daylight savings time changes switch from April and October to March and November? :S

According to the website I linked to:

"Daylight Saving Time, for the U.S. and its territories, is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, most of the Eastern Time Zone portion of the State of Indiana, and the state of Arizona (not the Navajo Indian Reservation, which does observe). Navajo Nation participates in the Daylight Saving Time policy, due to its large size and location in three states. "

And, I agree with those that have said I wish they'd do away with it altogether. But, if I've gotta have it, I'll at least think of it as 1 more hour of sleep for the fall. :D

>Well then you actually want to keep it forever not lose it.

I'd be happy either way, actually. If it was permanently standard time I'd just work 7 to 4 and not worry about it. (I know, I could do that anyway; just something about getting up earlier to deal with a time change we don't need bugs me.)

You would like this quote:

Canadian author Robertson Davies, in The Diary of Samuel Marchbanks (1947), wrote the following: "I object to being told that I am saving daylight when my reason tells me that I am doing nothing of the kind ... At the back of the Daylight Saving scheme, I detect the bony, blue-fingered hand of Puritanism, eager to push people into bed earlier, and get them up earlier, to make them healthy, wealthy, and wise in spite of themselves."

Yes, I do like that.:D Thanks for that. Daylight Savings Time, was 'put aside', till WW-II, when F.D. Roosevelt brought it back to 'conserve for the war effort'. I know, a lot of folks like the idea of DST but, as I said... I hate it! Dammit! this time of year, it should be dark, by 6:30 - 7:00PM.[:/]

I like the later dusks; but this time of year, I hate it that the kids have to stand at the school bus stops in the dark.

And...does it really conserve that much energy? It's not like most buildings have huge windows & skylights. Seems to me, if you're indoors during the day, especially at work, your light will be on anyway.
Darkness at 7AM sucks.

I've read that Arizona doesn't do Daylight Savings Time, is this correct?

I know Saskatchewan doesn't but Arizona? Say it ain't so !

Same with Indiana if memory serves me correctly...
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

If Arizona doesn't participate because more sunshine means more summertime HEAT ... they should do just the opposite and go to "night savings time".

In other words, move their clocks back an hour in Spring, and forward in Fall. That would make the sun go down earlier in Summer bringing cooler nighttime temperatures to backyard babeques, etc.

When I was studying at ASU I could never convince anyone this was a good idea.

"Daylight Savings Time" is like cutting a foot off the end of your bedsheets, and sewing it back on to the other end.

I hate biking home in the dark.

But without the dark, I would have missed the thrill of acceleratingmy bike down a hill...into a pitch black pedestrian tunnel...and into a four-foot-tall pile of tumbleweeds I couldn't see. You don't get thrills like that every day.[:/]
